Girmit Soccer Tournament is a football tournament organised in Fiji by the Fiji Football Association. The tournament was first held in 1979 to commemorate the centenary of the arrival of Indians in Fiji, under the indenture system, known as girmit by the Fiji Indians.
The first tournament ended in controversy when Labasa was awarded the Girmit Cup when Ba defaulted the final game. The tournament was revived in 1999 when Nadi beat Ba in the final by one goal to nil.

The Fiji men's national football team is Fiji's national men's team and is controlled by the governing body of football in Fiji, the Fiji Football Association. The team plays most of their home games at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
The 2006 OFC Club Championship was the 5th edition of the top-level Oceanic club football tournament organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), and the last tournament before it was rebranded as the OFC Champions League. The qualifying round was held at Govind Park in Ba, Fiji, from 6 February until 10 February 2006, with the main competition taking place at the North Harbour Stadium in Albany, New Zealand from 10 May until 21 May 2006.

The Fiji Football Association is the governing body of football in Fiji. It came into existence in 1961. It is the overseeing body of the Fiji National Team and its leagues.
Unlike the bulk of Fiji's Indian population, who are descendants of Indian indentured labourers brought to Fiji between 1879 and 1916, the Gujaratis came to Fiji as free immigrants beginning in 1904. While the indentured labourers, on becoming free, generally took up farming, the Gujaratis were traders and craftsmen. In the Indo-Fijian population as a whole, the caste system disappeared within a few years of indenture, but the Gujaratis still maintain it and very rarely marry outside their caste. The Gujaratis continue to maintain strong links with India, usually sending their sons and daughters to be married there while the rest of Fiji's Indian population have little contact with their country of origin.

Lautoka Football Club is a Fijian professional football club based in Lautoka that competes in the Fiji Premier League, the top flight of Fijian football. Their home stadium is Churchill Park. The club was formed in 1934.
The Inter-District Championship (IDC) is the amateur Fijian football cup. Only five teams first took part in the first IDC held in Suva in 1938. From 1938 to 1975, the competition was initially held on a knock out format but in 1976 pool play was introduced. From 1985, the competition was held in two divisions with the introduction of a second level tournament known as the Premier Division. In 1999 there was a short lived third level division. With Navua registering its first ever win of the IDC tournament in 2009, all the current Super Premium Division teams have now won the Lloyd Farebrother Trophy one or more time(s).

Levuka F.C. was a Fijian football team playing in the second division of the Fiji Football Association competitions. It is based in Levuka, which is the only town on Ovalau Island, in the Fiji group. Their home stadium is Nasau Park.

Girmitiyas, also known as Jahajis, were indentured laborers from British India transported to work on plantations in Fiji, South Africa, Eastern Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Caribbean as part of the Indian indenture system.
Unlike the majority of Fiji's Indian population, who are descendants of Indian indentured labourers brought to Fiji between 1879 and 1916, most of the Sikhs came to Fiji as free immigrants. Most Sikhs established themselves as farmers. Sikhs also came to Fiji as policemen, teachers and preachers. In recent years large numbers of Sikhs have emigrated from Fiji, especially to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Sikhs in Fiji are generally referred to as Punjabis.
Navaneeda Krishna Gounder is a former Nadi and Fiji soccer player. He debuted for Nadi in 1977. Gounder was well known for his lethal right boot and is well documented in an incident where his powerful volley led to a fractured hand of a Rewa goalie. He was part of the champion Nadi team which ruled the soccer fraternity in the late 1970s and early 1990s. Incidentally, it was in his reign as the President of Nadi F.C. that brought the glory days to the Nadi Soccer. Under his leadership from 1995, Nadi managed to win the Fiji Fact, Battle of the Giants and Girmit Tourney. In addition to that, Nadi team also were triumphant in the National League and Inter-District Tournament.

The Global Girmit Institute (GGI) Museum is co-located with the GGI Library at its headquarters in Saweni, Lautoka, Fiji. Girmit is a corruption of the English word, “agreement” from the indenture agreement the British government made with Indian labourers that consisted of specifics such as the length of stay in Fiji. The labourers came to be known as Girmityas.
