Ilse Annoeska de Lange, better known as Ilse DeLange, is a Dutch country and pop rock singer-songwriter. As a member of The Common Linnets, she finished in second place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.
"You Raise Me Up" is a song originally composed by the Norwegian-Irish duo Secret Garden. The music was written by Secret Garden's Rolf Løvland, and the lyrics by Brendan Graham. After the song was performed early in 2002 by the Secret Garden and their invited lead singer, Brian Kennedy, the song only became a minor UK hit. The song has been recorded by more than a hundred other artists including American songwriter Josh Groban in 2003 and Irish boy band Westlife in 2005 whose versions were hits in their countries. It was originally recorded by American singer Patti LaBelle for her ninth studio album Be Yourself (1989), and also for the soundtrack to the James Bond film, Licence to Kill. Three years later, Canadian singer Celine Dion covered "If You Asked Me To" for her 1992 self-titled second English-language studio album. The song samples its main melody from a 1984 song "Smalltown Boy" by the British synth-pop group Bronski Beat. The dance-pop track spent three weeks at the top spot of Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay Chart in May 2007. In the United States, it is the second single from September's album September, succeeding "Satellites", while overseas it is her fifth single release from her second studio album In Orbit, following "It Doesn't Matter". It is also a single from various compilation albums released in Europe.

The song was performed at the 2016 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in the Maracanã Stadium on August 21, 2016.
The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Calm After the Storm", written by Ilse DeLange, JB Meijers, Rob Crosby, Matthew Crosby and Jake Etheridge. He performed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 and finished in 18th place.
