Glasseater was a post-hardcore band from Miami, Florida. The band formed in 1998 as a duo, eventually expanding to a quintet.

History

The band signed to Matt Fox's record label Ides of March in 1999, releasing their debut album Miles Ahead of Where We Left Off. A second album, 7 Years Bad Luck, was released on Eulogy Recordings in 2000. In promotion of the release, the band embarked on a six-week tour of the United States with Mid Carson July and The Agency in June and July 2000. [1] [2] The tour included several cross-over shows with As Friends Rust and Strike Anywhere (the two of which were touring together), as well as a stop to play Hellfest 2K. [3] [4] [5]

In 2001, the band was signed to a three-record contract with Fearless Records. [6] [7] The first release through Fearless Records was a remixed and remastered version of 7 Years Bad Luck, which included two bonus tracks. [7] 2002 saw a reissue of Miles Ahead of Where We Left Off on Dead Droid records, while Fearless Records released the band's eponymous third album. Nationwide touring ensued, opening for Black Flag, 311, Dashboard Confessional, and Pennywise. [8]

By January 2003, differences between the band and Fearless Records lead to a release from their contract (which had one album left), and the band quickly signed with Victory Records to release their fourth album, Everything is Beautiful When You Don't Look Down. [6] [9]

Reunion shows

Glasseater performed a final time in Miami on July 31, 2010 at Churchill's Pub. The show involved both versions of the band with original vocalist Jason Calleiro and later vocalist Julio Marin alternating vocal duties throughout the show. The show is considered their reunion as well as their final show, because the band never played a farewell show before their hiatus in 2003. [10]

The band announced in December 2013 that they would reunite for at least one show at Churchill’s Pub Miami on February 22, 2014 [11]

The band was supposed to perform at Furnace Fest 2021 for a reunion show but were replaced with As Cities Burn with a message on Instagram wishing that Julio Marin "gets well soon", but never explaining why. People in the comments who know Marin say that he was undergoing chemotherapy. [12]

Hellfest was an American all-ages music festival that existed between 1997 and 2005. The festival showcased hardcore music in its broadest sense, including punk rock, metalcore, emo, post-hardcore and more. It originated in Central New York, in and around Syracuse, but eventually relocated to Central New Jersey during its final years. Hellfest was known for its fan-friendly atmosphere, including a lack of barriers that provided easy access to the stage for stage diving and sing-alongs. It also encouraged social-awareness through workshops that discussed such causes as animal rights, LGBTQ and politics, with many of its bands and attendees following straight-edge and/or vegetarian or vegan lifestyles.

German record label Defiance Records licensed the rights to the extended play for the European market, though these compact disc and 12" vinyl editions were released a day earlier than the American one, on May 27, 2002.

Calico System was an American metalcore band from St. Louis, Missouri. The group formed in 1998 and released several albums under the Eulogy Recordings label after successful LP releases and abundant touring. They announced their disbandment in 2007, stating each member decided to pursue their own career.

The Fists of Time is the debut extended play by American melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust. It was originally released by Belgian record label Good Life Recordings on July 13, 1998, on compact disc and 10" vinyl. American record label Doghouse Records reissued the release, under the expanded title The Fists of Time: An Anthology of Short Fiction and Non-Fiction, on compact disc, 12" vinyl and digitally, with new artwork and two additional songs, on June 22, 2000. In promotion of the release, As Friends Rust toured the United States, United Kingdom and Europe several times between June 1998 and September 2000. The bands that accompanied As Friends Rust on these tours include Discount, Dillinger Four, Strike Anywhere, Grade, Ensign, Ignite, Good Clean Fun, Garrison, Glasseater, Mid Carson July, The Agency, Purusam, Fast Times and Keith Welsh.

As Friends Rust is the third release by American melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust. It was released on compact disc, 8-inch vinyl and digitally in the United States on September 17, 1999. The eponymous extended play was the band's first output as part of an exclusive three-record contract with Toledo, Ohio-based record company Doghouse Records. As Friends Rust was licensed by Doghouse Records to various foreign markets, beginning with Belgian record label Good Life Recordings, which released the extended play on compact disc and double 7-inch vinyl several months earlier in July 1999. The European edition features a bonus song and a different artwork, but was erroneously promoted by Good Life Recordings as God Hour, though that title never appeared on the actual release. Doghouse Records also licensed As Friends Rust to Japanese record label Howling Bull Entertainment, which released a compact disc edition on October 5, 1999, and British record label Golf Records, which released a compact disc edition on October 22, 2001; these versions included six additional songs, a different artwork, and were promoted under the title Eleven Songs.

Damien Zev Moyal is an American vocalist, lyricist, musician, songwriter and designer. Originally from Amstelveen, North Holland, Netherlands, he moved to the United States as a child and grew up in Miami, Florida, where he notably fronted such hardcore punk, metallic hardcore and melodic hardcore bands as Shai Hulud, As Friends Rust, Morning Again, Culture, Bird of Ill Omen and Bridgeburne R. Moyal has been based in Ann Arbor, Michigan since 2006 and is the founding member of the semi-eponymously named gothic rock/post-punk band Damien Done.

Won is the first full-length album by American melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust. It was released on compact disc and 12" vinyl by American record label Doghouse Records on October 23, 2001. German record label Defiance Records licensed the rights to release the album on compact disc and 12" vinyl for the European market, though this edition was released a week earlier than the American one, on October 15, 2001. Japanese record label Howling Bull Entertainment also licensed the rights to release the album for the Asian market; this compact disc edition was released even earlier, on October 5, 2001, and includes two bonus tracks.

Alan Landsman is an American former vocalist and bass guitarist, noted for having played in several Florida-based metalcore bands, including Poison the Well, Until the End and Target Nevada. He also worked for the independent record label Eulogy Recordings during the early 2000s.

Richard "Chip" Walbert is an American musician, songwriter and disc jockey, originally from Tampa, Florida, but long-established in Miami, Florida. He is best known for his time playing guitar in the hardcore punk and metalcore bands Where Fear and Weapons Meet, Until the End, On Bodies, and Morning Again. He also played in Destro, All Hell Breaks Loose and Dance Floor Justice.

Kaleb Stewart was an American musician, vocalist, songwriter and former skateboarder. Originally from Talkeetna, Alaska, he moved around in his childhood before settling in Tampa, Florida as a teenager, and later made his home in Gainesville, Florida. While in Gainesville, he notably played bass guitar and provided backing vocals in the melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust from 1998 to 2000, and in the hardcore punk band Bridgeburne R from 1999 to 2000. Stewart took part of As Friends Rust's reunion in 2008, and remained with the band until 2019.

Timothy James Kirkpatrick is an American drummer. Originally from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Kirkpatrick played in punk band Shaft and emotional hardcore bands Roosevelt and Burgundy in his teens. After moving to Gainesville, Florida in 1997, he joined metallic hardcore band Culture and melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust, both with vocalist Damien Moyal.

The band later also included former members of Until the End, Where Fear and Weapons Meet, Glasseater, Destro, Mixtapes, and The Homeless Gospel Choir.

Joseph Lee Simmons is an American guitarist, bass guitarist, songwriter and brewer. Originally from Houston, Texas, Simmons grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, where he notably played in the hardcore punk bands Dinner Time and Lock Down, the sludge metal band Bird of Ill Omen and the metallic hardcore band Morning Again. He later moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he played in the metallic hardcore bands Culture and Some Sort of Radio, the melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust, and the emotional hardcore / post-hardcore band Salem. He currently plays in the black metal band Rot in Coffins.
