Glenn Ross (born 27 May 1971) known by his nickname "The Daddy", is a Northern Ireland former international strongman and powerlifter who has represented Northern Ireland and the UK in several World's Strongest Man competitions and various World Grand Prix and European Team competitions. Ross is the founder of the UK Strength Council and Scotland Strength Association and the creator of the UK's Strongest Man competition, as well as several regional and national qualifying events. [2]
Ross is a 5-time winner of UK's Strongest Man – 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. [1]
Ross is also a 3-time winner of Britain's Strongest Man – 1999, 2000, 2001. [1]
In 2003, Ross lifted three cars with the rear wheels completely off the ground, the combined weight including the frames of the three Citroën Saxos was almost 3 tonnes. [1] But in the hands of the lifter, this weight is actually more like 400 kg. The lifter is not lifting the raw weight of the car, it is a lever system. He has competed in the World's Strongest Man competition on five occasions. [1]
In 2005, Ross was in his peak physical condition. He was invited to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Arnold Strongman Classic, the heaviest strongman competition in the world. In the first event, he shocked audience members and judges by strict-pressing the 366 lb. Apollon's Axle three times. He took first place in the Hummer tire deadlift, setting a world record of 977.5 pounds. In the Inch Dumbbell press, Ross tied for first alongside Hugo Girard and Brian Siders by strict-pressing the 173 pound dumbbell 10 times. Ross placed third behind Vasyl Virastyuk and champion Žydrūnas Savickas.
Ross competed in the 2006 Arnold Strongman Classic, but injuries to his patellar tendons severely affected his performance. Ross lost his world record in the Hummer tire deadlift to Brian Siders in 2006.
In car-lifting events of the sort mentioned above, the full mass of the vehicle is not lifted. Instead, a system of levers is used to raise one set of wheels off the ground. The load at the competitor's hands is therefore of the order of 4000 newtons (i.e. would feel like lifting a 400 kg (881 lb) barbell). The exact load depends not only on the vehicle mass, but the distribution of that mass, which axle (front/rear) is lifted and also the geometry (i.e. lengths etc.) of the lever arrangements. This means that performances from one competition to another cannot be reliably compared.
Ross's usual catchphrase during strongman competitions is "Who's the Daddy?".
He has in the past weighed in at 474 lbs (215 kg), making him one of the heaviest strongmen in the world. His frame is emphasized by his body measurements; his neck is 24 inches (610 mm), his biceps are 24½ inches, his chest is 63 inches (1,600 mm), and his thighs are 35 inches (890 mm), as well as a 50-inch (1,300 mm) waist. He has lost 6 stone over 2009/2010 and is now 405 lbs (184 kg) in weight. Ross has, however, since increased his weight to over 500 lbs (35 stone) and is now 469 lbs (213 kg) in weight.
Ross has appeared on several TV shows, including Kelly Show, They Think It's All Over , The John Daley Show, Harry Hill's TV Burp , 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown , Celebrity Big Brother's Big Mouth , Ask Rhod Gilbert and Hole in the Wall . William Kazmaier is an American former world champion powerlifter, world champion strongman and professional wrestler. During his illustrious career, he set over 40 powerlifting and strongman world records, and won two International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Championships and three World's Strongest Man titles. In the 1980s, Kazmaier became famous for his claim to be "the strongest man who ever lived" by equaling and surpassing spectacular and versatile feats of strength of famous strongmen of the 20th century. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest strength athletes of all-time, and was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
Donald C. Reinhoudt was an American powerlifter and strongman. He won the IPF World Powerlifting Superheavyweight Championship four consecutive times (1973–1976), and won the World's Strongest Man in 1979.
Derek Anthony Poundstone is an American police officer, former professional strongman and strength coach from Woodbridge, Connecticut. He was the runner-up at the 2008 World's Strongest Man, a two-time Arnold Strongman Classic champion, and a three-time winner of America's Strongest Man. Poundstone is also a high-ranking officer for the Naugatuck, Connecticut Police Department and is the former owner and landlord of an apartment complex and gym.

Terry Hollands is a British bodybuilder and the winner of the 2bros Pro Luke Sandoe Classic Beginners Class 2019 bodybuilding championships. Hollands is also a retired strongman competitor and a past winner of England's Strongest Man, Britain's Strongest Man and UK's Strongest Man competitions.
Mark Felix is a Grenadian-English strongman competitor and regular entrant to the World's Strongest Man competition. He has competed at a record 18 World's Strongest Man contests, reaching the finals three times. He is the winner of the 2015 Ultimate Strongman Masters World Championships, 2016 WSF World Cup India and has won several international grip contests, including the Rolling Thunder World Championships in 2008 and 2009, as well as the Vice Grip Viking Challenge in 2011 and 2012.
The Arnold Strongman Classic is an annual competition featuring strength athletes from all over the world, determining who is the Strongest Man in the World. Created by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Lorimer and Terry Todd, it is an offshoot of the Arnold Sports Festival which takes place annually in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

Brian Shaw is an American retired professional strongman who is widely regarded as one of the greatest strength athletes of all-time. He won the 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016 World's Strongest Man, making him one of only five men to win the World’s Strongest Man four times or more. In 2011, Shaw became the first man to win the Arnold Strongman Classic and the World's Strongest Man competitions in the same calendar year, a feat he replicated in 2015. With 27 international competition wins, he is the fourth most decorated strongman in history behind Lithuania's Žydrūnas Savickas, Poland's Mariusz Pudzianowski and Iceland's Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Shaw has also set more than 25 world records in deadlifting, stonelifting, keg-tossing, grip related movements and more.
Vytautas Lalas is a Lithuanian professional strongman. He is most notable for being the winner of the 2013 Arnold Strongman Classic and the runner-up at the 2012 World's Strongest Man.
Mike Burke is an American strongman and a grip strength specialist from Aurora, Colorado. Before becoming a strength athlete, he worked as a construction worker.
Edward Stephen Hall is a British media personality and a retired strongman. He is best known for his world-record setting 500 kg (1,102 lb) deadlift in 2016. He is also known for winning 2017 World's Strongest Man competition.
Luke Skaarup is a professional engineer and also a retired professional strongman from Canada who competed actively in the sport of strongman from 2007 to 2015. During his competitive career, he held many records, most notably the Canadian record for heaviest atlas stone ever lifted in competition, the Ontario record for heaviest deadlift, and the Ontario Record heaviest dumbbell press. He competed in over sixty competitions with his top placings being the 2 x Ontario's Strongest Man Champion, 4th at North America's Strongest Man (2014), and 8th at the World Amateur Strongman Championships (2012).
Martins Licis is an American professional strongman, notable for winning the 2019 World's Strongest Man, the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic, and the 2021 Rogue Invitational strongman championships.
Tom Ryan Stoltman is a British professional strongman competitor, from Invergordon, Scotland. He is a three time winner of the World's Strongest Man in 2021, 2022, and 2024. He also won the national title of Britain's Strongest Man on the same years. Nicknamed "The Albatross" due to his sizeable arm span, Stoltman is known for his prowess with the Atlas Stones. In 2020, Stoltman broke the world record for the 5 Atlas Stones 100–180 kilograms (220–397 lb), completing them in just 16.01 seconds; he also holds the world record for the heaviest Atlas stone ever lifted over a 1.22 metres (4.0 ft) bar at 286 kilograms (631 lb).

Oleksii Novikov is a Ukrainian professional strongman. He won the 2020 World's Strongest Man competition, becoming the second Ukrainian to win the title since Vasyl Virastyuk in 2004, and at 24 years, 278 days, he is also the second youngest winner in history, being only seven days older than Jón Páll Sigmarsson in 1984. He is also a two time World's Ultimate Strongman, the 2022 Rogue Invitational champion, and the 2022 Europe’s Strongest Man.
