The Goa Democratic Front (GDF) or Goa Democratic People Front (GDPF) is a regional political party in the Indian state of Goa. It is a splinter faction of the Indian National Congress. GDF was led by Dayanand Narvekar. [1]

The Annexation of Goa was the process in which the Republic of India annexed the former Portuguese Indian territories of Goa, Daman and Diu, starting with the armed action carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in December 1961. In India, this action is referred to as the "Liberation of Goa". In Portugal, it is referred to as the "Invasion of Goa". Following the end of Portuguese rule in 1961, Goa was placed under military administration headed by Kunhiraman Palat Candeth as Lieutenant Governor. On 8 June 1962, military rule was replaced by civilian government when the Lieutenant Governor nominated an informal Consultative Council of 29 nominated members to assist him in the administration of the territory.

The Goa liberation movement was a movement which sought to end Portuguese colonial rule in Goa, India. The movement built on the small scale revolts and uprisings of the 19th century, and grew powerful during the period 1940-1961. The movement was conducted both inside and outside Goa, and was characterised by a range of tactics including nonviolent demonstrations, revolutionary methods and diplomatic efforts. However, Portuguese control of its Indian colonies ended only when India invaded Goa in 1961 and incorporated the territories into the Indian Union.

Relations between India and Portugal began amicably in 1947 when the former achieved independence. Relations went into decline after 1950 over Portugal's refusal to surrender its exclaves of Goa, Daman and Diu on India's west coast. By 1955, the two nations had cut off diplomatic relations, triggering a crisis which precipitated in the Indian annexation of Portuguese India in 1961. Portugal refused to recognise Indian sovereignty over the annexed territories until 1974 when, following the Carnation Revolution, the new government in Lisbon recognised Indian sovereignty and restored diplomatic relations.

Goa State in India

Goa is a state on the southwestern coast of India within the region known as the Konkan, and geographically separated from the Deccan highlands by the Western Ghats. Dayanand Ganesh Narvekar, born on 11 February 1950, is an Indian politician from the state of Goa. He served as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Goa from January 1985 to September 1989. He has also been the Finance Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister of Goa.

FC Goa An Indian professional football club based in Goa that competes in the Indian Super League

FC Goa is an Indian professional football club based in Goa that competes in the Indian Super League under license from All India Football Federation (AIFF). The club was launched on 26 August 2014 and founded by Srinivas Dempo and Dattaraj Salgaocar. It represents Goa, the only state to declare football as its official sport. The logo represents Goa's state animal the Gaur. While the colours blue and orange symbolizes the Goan coastline and sunrise.

The Goa Vikas Party (GVP) is a regional political party from Goa, India, led by Francisco Pacheco. The GVP was founded by late Sitaram Bandodkar, and the current president is Francisco Pacheco's partner Viola Pacheco. It was revived by Pacheco, who left the Nationalist Congress Party and joined the GVP ahead of the 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly election. It is a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is a part of the ruling coalition in Goa, the other members being the BJP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. The GVP has two members in the Goa Legislative Assembly: Pacheco from Nuvem and Caetano Silva from Benaulim.

Elections in India in 1977 included Legislative Assembly elections in several Indian states, including Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
