Godiya Akwashiki (born 3 August 1973) in Angba Iggah of Nasarawa State, Nigeria is a Nigerian politician. [1] [2] He is the current senator representing Nasarawa North senatorial district in Nasarawa State. [3] [1] [4] He was elected into the senate during the 2019 general elections of Nigeria. Akwashiki was re-elected during the 2023 general election. Before being elected into the senate he was the Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. [1] [5]

Early life and education

Akwashiki was born in 1973 to Mr Akwashiki Walaro and Mrs Ramatu Akwashiki in Angba Iggah [ permanent dead link ], Nasarawa Eggon local government area in Nasarawa State. [2] He attended the Government Primary School, Angba Iggah [ permanent dead link ] where he finished with his First School Leaving Certificate in 1987. In 1988 he enrolled into the Government Technical College, Assakio and graduated with the Senior Secondary Certificate in Education (WASSCE) in 1993.[ citation needed ]

Akwashiki enrolled into the Nasarawa State University, Keffi and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2010. He is married with children [6]

Political career

From 2011 to 2019, Akwashiki, under the platform of the People's Democratic Party was a member of the Nasarawa State Assembly. During his first term (2011-2015), he was the Majority Leader in the State Assembly. [7] In his second term (2015-2019), he was appointed the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, a position he held until 2019 when, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), he contested for and won the Nasarawa North senatorial seat.

He is currently the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-parliamentary Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Media and Public Affairs Committee. [8]

He was named the chairman, Senate committee on Airforce of the 10th senate on 8 August 2023. [9]

On August 29, 2021, Na'allah's eldest son, Abdulkarim Bala Na'Allah was murdered by unknown assailants in his residence in Kaduna state. In 2023, Na'allah lost his reelection to the Senate as he was defeated by Garba Maidoki who polled 75,232 votes while Na'allah scored 70,785.

The 2015 Nigerian Senate election in Nasarawa State was held on March 28, 2015, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Nasarawa State. Suleiman Adokwe representing Nasarawa South and Philip Aruwa representing Nasarawa North won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, while Abdullahi Adamu representing Nasarawa West won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo is a Nigerian politician, a businessman, a philanthropist and a member of the 10th Senate from Nasarawa South Senatorial District on the ticket of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He was a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2011 and the Speaker Nasarawa State House Of Assembly from 2003 to 2007. He was also a member of the 7th and 8th National Assembly - House of Representatives.
