Gorica Bridge over the Osum river is a landmark in the city of Berat, Albania. [1]
It is one of the oldest and most popular Ottoman bridges in Albania. It connects two parts of Berat, [2] was originally built from wood in 1780 and was rebuilt with stone in the 1920s. [3] The seven-arch bridge is 129 metres (423 ft) long and 5.3 metres (17 ft) wide [3] and is built about 10 metres (33 ft) above the average water level. The bridge was renovated in year 2015 by Bashkia Berat (the Municipality of Berat).
According to local legend, the original wooden bridge contained a dungeon in which a girl would be incarcerated and starved to appease the spirits responsible for the safety of the bridge.
Berat is the ninth most populous city of Albania and the seat of Berat County and Berat Municipality. By air, it is 71 kilometres north of Gjirokastër, 70 kilometres west of Korçë, 70 kilometres south of Tirana, and 33 kilometres east of Fier.

At the 2015 local government reform it was merged with the former municipalities Cukalat, Kutalli and Poshnjë to form a new municipality, that was officially renamed to Dimal in April 2021. The seat of the municipality Dimal is the town Ura Vajgurore, that was not renamed in 2021. The population at the 2011 census was 7,232.
Berat Castle, also referred to as the Citadel of Berat and castle quarter, is a fortress overlooking the town of Berat, Albania. It dates mainly from the 13th century and contains many Byzantine churches in the area and Ottoman mosques. It is built on a rocky hill on the left bank of the river Osum and is accessible only from the south. It is situated at an elevation of 214 metres (702 ft).
Gjirokastër National Folklore Festival is an artistic festival taking place every five years at Gjirokastër Castle in Gjirokastër, southern Albania. The festival was first held in 1968 and is regarded as the most important event in Albanian culture. The festival showcases Albanian traditional music, dress and dance from Albania, the diaspora, and Albanian inhabited lands throughout the Balkans and Southern Italy. The Gjirokastër Festival followed the tradition of the Folklore Festivals started in Tirana in 1949.
The St. Mary of Blachernae Church is a Byzantine church in Berat, Albania. It is named after the famous Church of St. Mary of Blachernae, near the Palace of Blachernae in Constantinople. It is believed that the church was built on the foundations of a ruined 5th century church that existed at the same place. The church is regarded as one of Berat's most important historical and architectural monuments and is a key tourist attraction for both Berat and Albania.
