In the 2001 census the Knockmoyle area had 141 households and a population of 329. It has a post office, church and public house. The nearby River Strule is well known for its trout fishing. Other attractions nearby include the Gortin Glens Forest Park and the Ulster American Folk Park. The Ulster Way walking route passes through Knockmoyle.

Kieran McGeary is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Pomeroy club and the Tyrone county team. Following Tyrone's All-Ireland win in 2021, he was picked by the Sunday Game panel as the footballer of the year. In December 2021, he won his first All-Star Award and was also named as the GAA/GPA Footballer of the Year.
