Govinda Kalita was an Indian politician and Leader of Communist Party of India. He represented Gauhati West constituency in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 1967 to 1972. [1]
The Revolutionary Communist Party of India is a political party in India. The party was founded as the Communist League by Saumyendranath Tagore in 1934,breaking away from the Communist Party of India (CPI). RCPI led armed uprisings after the independence of India,but later shifted to parliamentary politics. The party is active in the Kerala,West Bengal and Assam. The party was represented in the West Bengal while being a part of Second United Front Cabinet (1969) as well as in various state government during the Left Front rule in the state (1977–2011). In Assam,the party won four Legislative Assembly seats in 1978,but its political influence has since declined in the state.
Shiv Charan Mathur was an Indian politician. A leader of the Indian National Congress,he was Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1981 to 1985 and again from 1988 to 1989;later,he was Governor of Assam from 2008 to 2009.
Bimala Prasad Chaliha was a Leader of Indian National Congress and a Freedom Fighter who was imprisoned at Jorhat Jail in 1942 for active participation in Mahatma Gandhi's Quit India Movement against the British Government. He was elected to the post of Chief Minister of Assam for Three Consecutive Terms,once from Badarpur Constituency and twice from Sonari Constituency. He was in office from 28 December 1957 to 6 November 1970. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 1971.
