Grace Amponsah-Ababio (born 22 December 1941) is a Ghanaian Dentist and a retired Diplomat. [1] [2]
Grace had secondary education from 1955 to 1959 Wesley Girls' Senior High School, Cape Coast, Ghana. From 1961 to 1962. She studied at the National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI" in the Soviet Union . From 1962 to 1966 he studied at the Odessa National Medical University in the Soviet Union. As a dentist, she specialized in stomatology.
From 1967 to 1969, she was a house officer at the Komo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. From 1972 to 1974 she was a senior dentist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. From 1974 to 1978 she was a leading dental surgeon at the municipal polyclinic in the district Ussher Fort in Accra. From January 1979 to September 2001 she led her private dental practice. From 1989 to 2001, she was one of the initiators of the "Mobile Dental Clinic" and "Social Dental Outreach" with the dental services for communities in need in Ghana. From September 2001 to September 5, 2004, she was ambassador in The Hague (Netherlands) and was accredited by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons [3]
A dental hygienist or oral hygienist is a licensed dental professional, registered with a dental association or regulatory body within their country of practice. Prior to completing clinical and written board examinations, registered dental hygienists must have either an associate's or bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university. Once registered, hygienists are primary healthcare professionals who work independently of or alongside dentists and other dental professionals to provide full oral health care. They have the training and education that focus on and specialize in the prevention and treatment of many oral diseases.

East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine is the dental school at East Carolina University. It is North Carolina's second dental school, which enrolled its inaugural class in the fall of 2011. ECU SoDM was established to address the shortage of dentists in the rural regions across North Carolina. It serves North Carolina statewide by educating more dentists, with the primary focus of student recruitment being students who desire to return to rural and underserved areas to provide oral health care. The SoDM built 8 community service learning centers located in rural and underserved areas throughout the state. There is a long history of women in dentistry. Women are depicted as assistant dentists in the middle ages. Prior to the 19th century, dentistry was largely not yet a clearly defined and regulated profession with formal educational requirements. Individual female dentists are known from the 18th century. When the profession was regulated in the 19th century, it took a while before women achieved the formal education and permission to engage in dentistry.

Marian Ewurama Addy was a Ghanaian biochemist and the first Host of the National Science and Maths Quiz. Dr. Rafiuddin Ahmed was an Indian dentist, educator and later minister in the West Bengal cabinet, who founded the first dental college of India, Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital, later named 'The Calcutta Dental College', where he remained its principal until 1950. He established the Indian Dental Journal in 1925, and played a key role in founding the Bengal Dentist Act in 1939. In 1946, he established The Bengal Dental Association which was then renamed as the Indian Dental Association. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 1964.Remembered as the father of modern dentistry in India, in 2016, the Indian Dental Association declared 24 December as National Dentist's Day in his honour.
