The Great Brook Run is an annual mile-long cross country run which this year takes place on 28 December in Chadlington, Oxfordshire, England. It is a fun run event and all proceeds go to local charity, the Oxfordshire Association for the Blind. The course, which starts and finishes at the Tite Inn, is wet and muddy as it traces a path along the Coldron Brook (a stream in the village) and passes through a 3-foot tunnel under a bridge. [1]
The event was devised by Adam Engberg and James Kelly, and it was first held in 2006. The event has a fictional history which involves Vikings who attempt to invade the village in the year 1066, but find themselves thwarted by the brook. [2] The course begins at the local pub – a 17th-century building called The Tite Inn – and sets off for half a mile in the brook before looping back and finishing at the same point. [3]
Entrants, who donate £5 to take part, are encouraged to wear suitable clothing, although many fun-runners opt for fancy dress. [4] People of all ages enter the competition and every competitor receives a medal, regardless of performance. [1] [5] Around seventy people competed in the first race in 2006 and this had increased to over 100 by the third edition.[ citation needed ]
The first edition of the Great Brook Run was featured on the BBC's South Today , a regional news programme. [6] The race received nationwide media attention following the second race owing to the participation of the Conservative Party Leader and future Prime Minister David Cameron, who was then Member of Parliament for the village's constituency (Witney). [7] He acted as the race starter in 2007, [8] and has taken part in 4 races, including in 2014. [9] He finished 25th overall in 2008, beating a man dressed as Spider-Man to the finish line.[ citation needed ]

The Great Bristol Half Marathon is an annual road running event held on the streets of Bristol, UK. The route is at sea level and starts on Anchor Road outside We The Curious. Participants make their way toward Hotwells before heading under the Clifton Suspension Bridge and along the Portway toward Sea Mills before returning the same way then navigating around Cumberland Basin then along Spike Island before crossing Prince Street Bridge, circling Queen Square then heading to Castle Park via St Mary Redcliffe and Temple Circus. The final mile and a half take place in the Old City and Bristol city centre before crossing the finish line back at Anchor Road.
The Maldon Mud Race is an annual fun race held in spring at Promenade Park in Maldon, Essex, England, in which entrants compete to complete a 500 metres (550 yd) dash, in thick mud, over the bed of the River Blackwater. The race is organised by the Lions & Rotary clubs of Maldon and Maldon District Council which raises money for charity.
The Cardiff Half Marathon is an annual half marathon race held in the Welsh capital city of Cardiff, taking place in October. The event was established in 2003, initially alongside the Cardiff Marathon, however, due to the increasing popularity of the Half Marathon, the Marathon distance was dropped after 2006. The race was originally organised by the children’s charity Barnardo’s. Now organised by Run 4 Wales, the race has grown to accommodate up to 25,000 runners. Also in partnership with the race is Cardiff Council, the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the Welsh Government, Welsh Athletics and title sponsors Cardiff University.
The Crim Festival of Races is an annual road running event with several races and walking events. The original distance was 10 miles and is the marque race as "The Crim" with its infamous Bradley Hills and blue line to keep runners on course. The Crim has been held in August in Flint, Michigan since 1977. It draws runners from around the world from countries such as Kenya, Russia, and Ukraine. The race attracts approximately 50,000 people each year. The festival is one of the Flint Parade of Festivals.

Obstacle course racing (OCR) is a sport in which a competitor, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges in the form of obstacles. Races vary in length from courses with obstacles close together to events of several kilometers which incorporate elements of track, road and/or cross country/trail running. Courses may include climbing over walls or up ropes, monkey bars, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water or mud, crawling under barbed wire, and jumping through fire.
Superhero Scramble was a superhero themed obstacle race series that has several levels of races. The majority of participants participate for fun, while others compete for team and individual prize money that's available at each event. Participants frequently dress in costumes based on characters from video games, movies, cartoons, and comic books. The all-day events included live bands, DJ's, emcees, entertainers, food and beer. There were also night races and kids races.
