The Great Falls Balloon Festival is a hot air balloon festival held in the twin cities of Lewiston, Maine and Auburn, Maine. It has been held annually each August since 1993. The festival sitting on the banks of the Androscoggin River has attracted about 100,000 people, both locals and tourists annually. The festival takes place in several parks and plazas where the balloons lift off and feature rides, games, music, and trade booths.

The Androscoggin River is a river in the U.S. states of Maine and New Hampshire, in northern New England. It is 178 miles (286 km) long and joins the Kennebec River at Merrymeeting Bay in Maine before its water empties into the Gulf of Maine on the Atlantic Ocean. Androscoggin Bank Colisée

The Androscoggin Bank Colisée is a 4,000 capacity multi-purpose arena, in Lewiston, Maine, that opened in 1958. The Androscoggin Bank Colisée was built to replace St. Dominics Regional High School Arena, and initially constructed and operated by the Catholic parish of SS. Peter and Paul. Currently, it is the home of the Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League. The Colisee is also used for concerts, conventions and trade shows. There is 17,000 square feet of exhibit space. For conventions, the Colisee can accommodate up to 4,800 patrons.

Bates Mill

The Bates Mill is a textile factory company founded in 1850 and located at 35 Canal Street in Lewiston, Maine. The mill served as Maine's largest employer through the 1860s, and early profits from the mill provided much of the initial capital for nearby Bates College. Currently, the mill buildings are home to several new businesses, apartments, and a small museum.

The Maine Central Railroad Rumford Branch is a railroad line in Maine now operated as part of the Pan Am Railways system. The Rumford Branch leaves the mainline at Leeds Junction and continues northwest up the Androscoggin River valley, passing through Livermore Falls and terminating at Rumford.
