The Greek women's handball cup is an annual competition, the most important in Greek women's handball together with the Greek championship. The first winner was GE Veria in 1987. Anagennisi Artas holds the record of cups won with nine consecutive titles between 1998 and 2006. Ormi Patras was the team that put an end to that domination by winning the title on May 13, 2007.

Ormi Patras is a Greek women's club based in Patras. It was founded in 2003 through the fusion of Thriamvos Patras, Poseidonas Patras and Foinikas Patras. It is a major protagonist in the Greek women's handball cup and championship. Ormi Patras has won 6 Greek championships and 4 Greek cups. In 2015, Ormi Patras withdrew from the championship due to financial problems.

The Greek women's handball championship known as A1 Ethniki Women's Handball is an annual competition, the most important in Greek women's handball together with the Greek Cup. The competition is organised by the Hellenic Handball Federation since 1981. The first champion was Aris Nikaias in 1982. Anagennisi Artas holds the record of most titles won with 12 consecutive titles from 1995 to 2006. Ormi Patras broke that tradition with its title in 2007. The current title holder is PAOK with 6 titles in total.

Anagennisi Arta Football Club is a Greek football club, based in Arta, in the North-West part of Greece. The club was established in 1960 from the union between local Arta clubs Panamvrakikos (1928), Aetos (1948) and Olympiacos (1957).

Elena Nikoli is a Greek handball player. She has won the Greek championship six times, as well as the Greek cup (1998–2003). She took the third place at the Balkan Games in 2004 and she also participated at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. The Greece women's national water polo team represents Greece in international women's water polo competitions. Since the mid-1990s, Greece have emerged as one of the leading powers in the world, becoming World Champions after their gold medal win at the 2011 World Championship.

The 2009–10 EHF Women's Champions League was the 17th edition of the EHF Women's Champions League, a handball competition for top women's clubs of Europe managed by the European Handball Federation. It was won by Danish club Viborg HK who defeated Romanian CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea at the finals with an aggregate score of 60–52. It was the third title for Viborg and the sixth for a Danish team.
