Green Bay Packaging is an American pulp and paper company based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They produce corrugated shipping containers, folding cartons, and coated label products. [3]

History

The Green Bay Box Company was formed in 1933 by George F. Kress. [4] They began by manufacturing corrugated shipping boxes.

In 1961, Jim Kress became president of Green Bay Box Company. [4]

In 1963, Green Bay Box Company merged with Green Bay Pulp & Paper to become Green Bay Packaging. [2] [4]

In 1964, the company opened a factory in Wausau, Wisconsin. [5]

In 1965, the company opened a factory in Fremont, Ohio. [6]

In 1970, Green Bay Packaging became the first company to develop and execute a closed water process. [4]

In 1992, Green Bay Packaging became one of the first companies to become effluent free. [4]

In 1995, Will Kress became president of Green Bay Packaging. [4]

In 1996, founder George F. Kress was inducted into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame, as was former president Jim Kress in 2005. [4]

In 2014, the company acquired Midland Packaging and Display of Franksville, Wisconsin and Great Lakes Packaging Corporation of Germantown, Wisconsin. [7] [8]

In 2015, the company acquired Baird Display of Waukesha, Wisconsin. [9]

In 2018, the company acquires Wisconsin Packaging Corporation, Grand Traverse Container, Inc and Citadel Industries. The Green Bay Mill Division breaks ground on state-of-the-art paper mill. The Chicago Sales & Distribution Center broke ground for the construction of a new 170,000 square-foot complex [10] in Downers Grove, IL.

Awards

In 1973, the National Sports Foundation awarded Green Bay Packaging their National Gold Medal for their efforts in water pollution abatement. [4]

In 1994, they were recognized as a Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment. [4]

In 2004, they were awarded the Wisconsin Governor's Award for Excellence in environmental performance, as well as the Tag and Label Manufacturer's Institute Environmental Award for Innovative Technology. [4]

In 2005, they received the Brown County Business Recycling and Waste Minimization Award. [4]

Corrugated fiberboard is a material consisting of a fluted corrugated sheet and one or two flat linerboards. It is made on "flute lamination machines" or "corrugators" and is used for making cardboard boxes. It is one of the world's largest paper and packaging companies with US$15 billion in annual revenue and 42,000 employees in 30 countries. The company is headquartered in Sandy Springs, Georgia, consolidating offices from Norcross, Georgia and Richmond, Virginia.

Gaylord Container Corporation was an American integrated manufacturer of packaging materials, primarily corrugated containers. Operating from 1986 until 2002, most of the company's facilities were originally part of Crown Zellerbach's container division. Based in Deerfield, Illinois, a suburb north of Chicago, Gaylord Container completed its initial public offering in July 1988 and was listed on the American Stock Exchange. After less than 16 years as a company, it was acquired by a competitor, Temple-Inland, in early 2002, which was acquired by International Paper a decade later in 2012.

KapStone Paper & Packaging is an American pulp and paper company based in Northbrook, Illinois. It was founded in 2005 as Stone. Since November 2018 it has been a subsidiary of WestRock Company.

Corrugated box design

Corrugated box design is the process of matching design factors for corrugated fiberboard boxes with the functional physical, processing and end-use requirements. Packaging engineers work to meet the performance requirements of a box while controlling total costs throughout the system.

Cardboard is a generic term for heavy-duty paper-based products having greater thickness and superior durability or other specific mechanical attributes to paper; such as foldability, rigidity and impact resistance. The construction can range from a thick sheet known as paperboard to corrugated fiberboard which is made of multiple corrugated and flat layers.

Shelf-ready packaging (SRP) and retail-ready packaging (RRP) refers to the packaging of a product so that it is delivered to a retailer in packaging which is optimized for efficient stocking and sale.

The Great Little Box Company (GLBC) is a Canadian company which manufactures custom and stock corrugated boxes, point-of-purchase displays, digital print and packaging, labels and flexible packaging, folding cartons, and protective packaging. The company also distributes shipping and moving supplies. GLBC's main manufacturing facility is located in Richmond, British Columbia and occupies over 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2). In addition to its Richmond head office, the company has distribution locations in Kelowna and Victoria, British Columbia, and in Everett, Washington. Consolidated Papers, Inc. (CPI) was a paper manufacturer headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. It was incorporated as the Consolidated Water Power Company on 16 July 1894. Over time it expanded to include operations in Biron, Stevens Point, Whiting, Appleton and Port Arthur, Ontario. The company was an innovator in the production of coated paper. In 2000, the company was bought by the Finnish company Stora Enso. The former Consolidated paper mills were sold in 2007 to NewPage, which was in turn acquired by Verso in 2015.
