The Greenbrier Military School was a boys-only, private, military, boarding high school and Junior College, located in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The school was founded in 1812 and closed in 1972, [1] when the campus was converted into the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. The sister school was Greenbrier College.

In the early 2000s, alumni of The Greenbrier Military School created a program called The Greenbrier Cadet Program where they partnered with Fork Union Military Academy. The program honors one cadet each year that exemplifies the values held by The Greenbrier Military School and the cadet wears an honor cord which is presented at the spring parades, where Greenbrier Military School alumni are the guests of honor. The school's alumni fund a scholarship at the WVSOM osteopathic college that occupies the former military school plant and campus.
The Greenbrier Military School Alumni Association (GMSAA) directs and funds the Greenbrier Military School Leadership Scholarship, that grants scholarships to at least one graduating senior from both Greenbrier East High School and Greenbrier West High School.

New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a public military junior college and high school in Roswell, New Mexico. The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (VTCC) is the military component of the student body at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Cadets live together in residence halls, attend morning formation, wear a distinctive uniform, and receive an intensive military and leadership educational experience similar to that available at the United States service academies. The Corps of Cadets has existed from the founding of the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1872 to the present-day institution of Virginia Tech, which is designated a senior military college by federal law. As of August 2021, about 1,200 cadets are currently enrolled in the program.

West Virginia State University (WVSU) is a public historically black, land-grant university in Institute, West Virginia. Founded in 1891 as the West Virginia Colored Institute, it is one of the original 19 land-grant colleges and universities established by the second Morrill Act of 1890, which evolved as a diverse and inclusive campus. Following desegregation, WVSU's student population slowly became more white than black. As of 2017, WVSU's student body was 75% white and only 8% African-American.

WVSOM currently has 778 students, and focuses on primary care and rural medicine.
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, commonly known simply as The Citadel, is a public senior military college in Charleston, South Carolina. Established in 1842, it is one of six senior military colleges in the United States. It has 18 academic departments divided into five schools offering 31 majors and 57 minors. The History of The Citadel began in the early 1820s with the formation of a militia and state arsenal in response to an alleged slave revolt in 1822. By 1842 the arsenal grew into an academy, with the Legislature establishing it as the South Carolina Military Academy. Cadets played a key role in the Civil War, by firing upon a federal ship three months before the war began. Many Confederate officers attended the school. Renamed in 1910 as The Citadel, the school's academic reputation grew. After moving the campus near Hampton Park in 1922, the college has grown substantially. Sixteen years after legal segregation ended in public schools, the Citadel saw the graduation of its first Black student, Charles D. Foster. After an equally rocky journey forward, the Citadel graduated its first female Cadet in 1999. The school has produced many military officers, business, and political leaders throughout its history.
