Greg Fairley is a former Group 1-winning Scottish jockey, who was British flat racing Champion Apprentice in 2007.
He began riding on the low-level "flapping" circuit in the Scottish Borders, where his father Andrew had ridden more than 600 winners. From there, he joined the Mark Johnston stable in Middleham, Yorkshire in 2004, and his parents moved with him. He had been at school with Keith Dalgleish and it was he who helped him to settle in and establish himself. [1]
He became Champion Apprentice in 2007 with 65 winners, beating Liam Jones and William Buick in the process. In 2009, his yearly tally reached a personal high of 85 winners and the following year, he won his first Group 1 success on Lady Jane Digby in the Bayerisches Zuchtrennen the following year. [1]
Soon after, his career began to derail. First, a row between his mother (also his agent) and Johnston, led to him leaving the stable. As a result, he managed only 21 winners in 2011. Then in May, he was charged by the British Horseracing Authority of being in breach of their corruption rules. In December of that year, he and fellow jockeys Paul Doe, Kirsty Milczarek and Jimmy Quinn were banned after the charges were upheld. He and Doe were found guilty of the most serious offence - not riding a horse to its merits - and were each banned for 12 years for offences relating to 10 races between 17 January and 15 August 2009. Fairley had already handed in his licence in October, having only ridden 4 winners since the charges were brought. [1] Fairley did not attend his hearing. [2]
During the investigation, Fairley had made use of the Jockeys Employment and Training Scheme to retrain in forestry, and is believed to have returned to Scotland to pursue that career. [3] He also returned to flapping riding, which does not come under the BHA's auspices, and won a race in his hometown of Hawick the following June. [4]

Johnny Murtagh is an Irish flat racing trainer and former jockey from Bohermeen, near Navan, Kells, County Meath. As a jockey he won many of the major flat races in Europe, including all the Irish Classics, all the Group 1 Races at Royal Ascot, The Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and Europe's biggest race the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He was also Irish flat racing Champion Jockey five times. As a trainer, based at stables near Kildare, he has saddled a winner at Royal Ascot and an Irish Classic winner.
Lanfranco "Frankie" Dettori, is an Italian jockey based in England. In a career spanning over 35 years, he has been British flat racing Champion Jockey three times and has ridden the winners of 287 Group 1 races including 23 winners of the British Classic Races. His most celebrated achievement was riding all seven winners on British Festival of Racing Day at Ascot Racecourse on 28 September 1996.

Ryan Lee Moore is an English flat racing jockey, who was Champion Jockey in 2006, 2008 and 2009. He is currently the first choice jockey for Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle operation, a role in which he mainly rides horses owned by Coolmore Stud. He also sometimes rides horses for Juddmonte and The Queen. As of 2023, Moore has ridden over 170 Group or Grade 1 winners internationally. He has the most British Group & Listed wins of any active jockey.
Jamie Spencer is an Irish flat racing jockey currently riding in the UK. He has been champion jockey in both Ireland and Britain and has won seven classics, five in Ireland and two in England. Spencer is an advocate for the art of holding up horses late into the races, and then making use of their natural dash of speed.
Jason Charles Weaver is a former, classic-winning, British flat racing jockey who had his major successes in the mid-1990s. In total, Weaver rode more than 1,000 winners in a career which spanned fourteen years. Since retiring he has worked as a presenter and pundit, and currently works on ITV Racing and Sky Sports Racing. Weaver is one of only seven jockeys to have ridden two hundred winners in a season, a feat achieved in 1994 when he finished runner-up to Frankie Dettori in the jockey's championship.
Eddie Ahern is an Irish professional jockey, currently banned from racing for ten years by the British Horseracing Authority on charges of corruption. He was champion apprentice in Ireland in 1997.
William Buick is a Norwegian-British flat jockey. He shared the champion apprentice jockey title in 2008 with David Probert and won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in 2007 and 2008. From 2010 to 2014 he was stable jockey to John Gosden. In 2015 he signed with Godolphin. Buick won his first Group1 race in Canada in 2010 and since then has won Group 1 races in England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. He has won four British Classic Races: the St Leger in 2010, 2011 and 2021 and the Derby in 2018.
Kirsty Milczarek is a former professional jockey. She is of Polish descent but was born in the UK, where she is based in Newmarket.
Charles James William Smirke (1906–1993), was a British flat-race jockey. In a career that lasted from 1920 until 1959, he rode the winners of eleven British Classic Races. As a rider, he was known for his skill, strength and tactical intelligence, together with his self-confident and outspoken personality. Although he never won the Championship, he was regarded as one of the best jockeys of his era. The Racing Post ranked him as the fifth greatest jockey of the 20th Century and the greatest never to have been champion.
Silvestre de Sousa is a Brazilian flat racing jockey who is based in Britain and was three times champion jockey.
Edward William George Hide was a British multiple classic winning jockey. He was, at his peak, the sixth most successful jockey in British racing history and remained the ninth most successful jockey over 30 years after his retirement.

He is the 7th winningmost jockey in British flat racing history and has the most winners of any jockey not to have won the Jockeys' Championship.
