Joseph Ejercito Estrada,,also known by the nickname Erap,is a Filipino politician and former actor. He served as the 13th president of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001,the 9th vice president of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998,and the 21st mayor of the City of Manila,the country's capital,from 2013 to 2019. In 2001,he became the first chief executive in Asia to be formally impeached and resigned from power. At the age of 85,he is currently the oldest living former Philippine President.

EDSA is an acronym derived from Epifanio de los Santos Avenue,the major thoroughfare connecting five cities in Metro Manila,namely Pasay,Makati,Mandaluyong,Quezon City,and Caloocan,with the revolution's epicenter at the EDSA Shrine church at the northern tip of Ortigas Center,a business district.
Jose Pimentel Ejercito Jr.,also known as Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada or simply Jinggoy Estrada,is a Filipino politician,film actor,and producer serving as a Senator since 2022,and previously from 2004 to 2016. He was the president pro tempore of the Senate from 2007 to 2013,and as such,became the acting Senate President for the 47 days in 2013 between Juan Ponce Enrile's resignation and Franklin Drilon's election as the new Senate President. Before serving in the Senate,he was the vice mayor (1988–1992) and later mayor (1992–2001) of San Juan,Metro Manila.

The 2004 presidential campaign of Fernando Poe Jr. was formally launched on November 26,2003,upon announcing his candidacy at the Manila Hotel in the City of Manila. Poe was the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP)'s nominee for President of the Philippines in the 2004 election. He chose Loren Legarda,the sitting Majority Floor Leader of the Philippine Senate,as his vice presidential running mate on January 1,2004. A public figure in his movie career and known for his charitable but unpublicized endeavours,he targeted his candidacy at the same poor whom he championed in his films. Poe accepted the nomination in December 2003 and was to be the standard opposition bearer for the Philippines' 2004 presidential election. Some accounts portray him as a reluctant candidate who was only prevailed upon to accept the nomination by his best friend,deposed former President Joseph Estrada. But other accounts say he was convinced to cast his bid for the presidency because of the overwhelming crowd that gathered for the first rally of the FPJ for President Movement at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
