Gridiron Queensland is the governing body for gridiron (American football) in the state of Queensland, Australia. There are currently nine teams registered in the men's GQ League and six teams in the women's league. GQ also supports the North Queensland Gridiron League consisting of 4 teams across Townsville, Mackay, Cairns and Rockhampton.
In the end of the season (late November or early December), the Sunbowl takes place where finalists of each division faceoff to win the championship.
After the season, players across the league are selected to form the Queensland Sundevils teams which plays in the National championships. Both the men's and women's Sundevils are current undefeated national champions having won their respective national championships in early 2014.
The Female Gridiron League of Queensland (FGLQ), the first league of its kind in Australia, is a full kit, women's tackle American nine-a-side football competition that commenced on 24 August 2012. The FGLQ was founded by the Logan City Gridiron Football Club and is sanctioned by Gridiron Queensland. [1] Three teams participated in the first season in 2012, the Logan City Jets, Kenmore Panthers and Gold Coast Sea Wolves. The first officially sanctioned game of women's gridiron was played between the Kenmore Panthers and Gold Coast Sea Wolves on 24 August 2012 at Logan Metro Sports, Browns Plains, Queensland. [2] The Logan City Jets defeated the Kenmore Panthers 38-20 in the Summerbowl I championship game played on 2 November 2012. [3] On 23 March 2013 the Female Gridiron League of Queensland Allstars, [4] a team consisting of players who played in the 2012 FGLQ season, toured to Croydon, Melbourne to play the Western Foxes the first women's American Football team in Victoria. [5] [6] The FGLQ Allstars won the game 28-14. [7] Four teams participated in the 2013 FGLQ season which commenced on 6 September 2013; Logan City Jets, Kenmore Panthers, [8] Gold Coast Stingrays (formally Sea Wolves) [9] and new team the Western Jaguars. [10] Following on from the pioneering efforts of the FGLQ other states across Australia established women's gridiron leagues including Gridiron NSW in 2013, [11] Gridiron Victoria in 2013 [12] and ACT Gridiron in 2014.
In 2014 Gridiron Queensland took over the administration of women's gridiron in Queensland. The first ever Women's national championship of American football contested between QLD, NSW and ACT was held in early 2014 and players who played season II of the Female Gridiron League of Queensland (FGLQ) were eligible to be selected for the first ever Queensland SunDevils women's team. The SunDevils were undefeated champions defeating ACT 14-6 in a hard-fought final. Most Valuable Player for the national championship was Queensland player Kristy Moran.

The Queensland Cup, currently known as the Hostplus Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the highest-level regional rugby league football competition in Queensland, Australia. It is run by the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) and is contested by fifteen teams, thirteen of which are based in Queensland, with one based in New South Wales and one in Central Province, Papua New Guinea.
In Queensland, Australian rules football dates back to the colonial era in 1866, with organised competitions being continuous since the 1900s. Today, it is most popular in South East Queensland and the Cairns Region. There are 11 regional club competitions, the highest profile of which are the semi-professional Queensland Australian Football League and AFL Cairns. It is governed by AFL Queensland. According to Ausplay there are 51,941 adult players with a per capita rate of 1.2%, just under half of which are female, and 30,563 children. It is the seventh most participated team sport and fourth code of football after soccer, touch and rugby league.
The Talent League is an under-19 Australian rules football representative competition based in Melbourne and run by the Australian Football League (AFL). It is based on geographic regions throughout country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne with each team representing one of twelve Victorian regions, while a thirteenth team from Tasmania was reintroduced in 2019.
The NSW Cup, currently known as the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a rugby league competition for clubs in New South Wales. The competition has a history dating back to the NSWRFL's origins in 1908, starting off as a reserve grade competition, and is now the premier open age competition in the state. The New South Wales Cup, along with the Queensland Cup, acts as a feeder competition to the National Rugby League premiership. The competition is the oldest continuous rugby league competition in the Australia.
Lacrosse in Australia is a minor sport, with a long and proud history dating back to 1876, with a small but dedicated community of participants and volunteers. The established centres for lacrosse are in the greater metropolitan areas of Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. In these cities there are organised weekend field lacrosse competitions for men and women at senior and junior levels, played over the winter months. In the off-season, there are informal box lacrosse and sofcrosse competitions, though the majority of players in Australia are mostly of the field lacrosse type. Some lacrosse is also played in Sydney, South East Queensland, Canberra, Ballarat and Bendigo, it is very much at the developmental level.
Luke Capewell is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Ipswich Jets after having previously played for various teams in the National Rugby League in the late 2000s and early 2010s. His preferred playing positions are in the halves or the three-quarters. A talented junior player, he is a former Australian Schoolboys and Queensland Under-17s representative.
Gridiron Australia is the governing body of American football in Australia. It is an approved sporting association under federal government regulations and is a member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). The organisation was formed in 1994 and organized leagues have played since 1983.

Illawarra Stingrays FC are a soccer team based in the Illawarra, New South Wales. They compete in the NSW National Premier Leagues Women’s or highest state level tier of women’s soccer within Football NSW. The club was founded in 2006 and is a member based association.
The Queensland Football Association (QFA) is the largest Australian rules football league in Queensland and second largest in the world by number of senior clubs. Dating back to 1969 and going by various names it is now run by AFL Queensland as a second tier competition under its semi-professional Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL). There are 52 clubs spanning as far north as Gympie in Queensland to as far south as Ballina in New South Wales (NSW). Most clubs field men's and women's senior and reserve sides in the top divisions, with senior only teams in the lower divisions. The men's competition is known as the QFA and the women's is known as the QFAW.
