Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry was founded in 1949 by pioneers of industrial Gujarat Kasturbhai Lalbhai and Amritlal Hargovinddas. With 4000 direct members which include over 200 Trade and Industry Associations and leading Chambers of Commerce of the Gujarat State. [6] Pathik Patwari is the current president.

Kasturbhai Lalbhai was an Indian industrialist and philanthropist. He co-founded the Arvind Mills along with his brothers and several other institutes. He was a cofounder of the Ahmadabad Education Society which initiated Ahmedabad University and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He served as the chairman of historic and influential Anandji Kalyanji Trust that manages Shatrunjaya and several other Jain pilgrimage centers, for 50 years.

Guruprasad Mohapatra was an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) who had held several important positions in the Gujarat State Govt and also in the Central Govt of India. At the time of his demise in June 2021 due to COVID-19 he was holding the position of the Secretary of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in Govt of India.
