Gunnar Hvarnes

Gunnar Hvarnes (born 5 May 1977, Hvarnes near Larvik) is a Norwegian chef, and the country's delegate to participate in the 2010 Bocuse d'Or Europe and the 2011 Bocuse d'Or international finals, [1] [2] [3] [4] where he won the bronze medal. [5]

Hvarnes has previously competed in culinary contests, achieving silver in the 2004 Norwegian national championship, and winning gold in 2006 and 2007. He was captain of the Norwegian national chef team that won gold in the 2006 world championship in Luxembourg and captain of the Norwegian team that won gold at the Culinary Olympics at Erfurt in 2008. As the winner of Norway's "chef of the year" in 2009, Hvarnes qualified as the Norwegian Bocuse d'Or Europe delegate. [1] [3] In the Bocuse d'Or Europe final in Geneva in June 2010, Hvarnes won the silver medal behind Rasmus Kofoed, qualifying for the Bocuse d'Or final in January 2011. [6]

Hvarnes has a wide background of employment with various restaurants and hotels in Norway. He currently works as a culinary consultant at the Gastronomisk Institutt in Stavanger. [1]

The Bocuse d'Or USA is a biennial chef championship, where the winner is selected to represent the U.S. in the international Bocuse d'Or competition. Following 20 years of American representation in the competition, in 2008 Paul Bocuse asked Daniel Boulud to establish a structure for the selection of Team USA, who along with Thomas Keller and Jérôme Bocuse form the Board of Directors of the Bocuse d'Or USA Foundation. The first Bocuse d'Or USA competition was held in September 2008.

Tom Victor Gausdal is a Norwegian chef, and silver medalist of the 2005 Bocuse d'Or. The margin separating Gausdal from gold medal winner Serge Vieira was one point. Gausdal had a period of apprenticeship at Statholdergaarden under Bent Stiansen and was from 1997 to 2008 a member of the Norwegian national chef team. Intent since childhood on a culinary profession, Gausdal considered for a while on becoming a pastry chef.

St. Lars is a grill-restaurant in the borough Bislett in Oslo, Norway. It is owned by international TV-chef Andreas Viestad, Face2Face communications agency founder Per Meland and Stargate-producer Tor Erik Hermansen. The restaurant is known for using meat from horses and bear, and even pigs from Bygdø Royal Farm's petting zoo. Everything apart from their horse tartar has been cooked on a custom made grill. The cuisine is based on serving raw or grilled food with an emphasis on Norwegian produce and unusual cooking techniques. The owners have tried to bring some of the ambience from the New York-restaurant The Spotted Pig, owned by Hermansen's StarRoc partner Jay-Z, to their restaurant.

The Bocuse d'Or is a biennial world chef championship. Named for the chef Paul Bocuse, the event takes place during two days near the end of January in Lyon, France at the SIRHA International Hotel, Catering and Food Trade Exhibition, and is one of the world's most prestigious cooking competitions.
