Guy Robert Thibault CMM CD MSC is a retired Canadian Army officer. He is a former Vice Chief of the Defence Staff in Canada.
Thibault joined the Canadian Forces in 1978. [1] He became Base Commander, CFB Kingston in 2002 before deploying with the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in 2004. [1] He went on to be Commander of Land Force Central Area in 2005, Assistant Chief of the Land Staff in 2007 and Chief of Staff (Information Management) in 2009. [1] After that he became Chairman of the Inter-American Defense Board in June 2011 and Vice Chief of the Defence Staff in September 2013. [2] On 13 September 2013, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross. [3]
On 19 January 2016, it was announced that Lieutenant-General Thibault would retire and be replaced in his position by Vice-Admiral Mark Norman. [4] He retired from Canadian Armed Forces on 8 August 2016. [5]
The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) comprises the national military forces of Namibia. It was created when the country, then known as South West Africa, gained independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990. Lieutenant-General Geoffrey Walsh, CBE, DSO, CD was a Canadian soldier and Chief of the General Staff, the head of the Canadian Army from 1961 – 1964; Walsh was the last officer to hold this appointment as it was eliminated in 1964 as part of the reorganization of Canada's military in the lead-up to the 1968 unification of the Canadian Forces. The most senior army appointment after unification, the Commander of Mobile Command, had a much-reduced scope of authority.
General John Nicholas Reynolds Houghton, Baron Houghton of Richmond, is a retired senior British Army officer and former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the British Armed Forces. He was appointed CDS in July 2013, following the retirement of General Sir David Richards. He served as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, the Green Howards in Northern Ireland during The Troubles and later became Commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade in Northern Ireland. He deployed as Senior British Military Representative and Deputy Commanding General, Multi-National Force – Iraq during the Iraq War. Later, he became Chief of Joint Operations at Permanent Joint Headquarters and served as Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff until assuming the position of CDS. Houghton retired from the British Army in July 2016, and was succeeded as CDS by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach.
