HARNET (Hong Kong Academic and Research Network) is the wide area network that links up the campus networks of the eight tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.

It was founded in 1991 or 1992. [1] [2] Its goal is to facilitate information sharing among academic libraries. [3] It is primarily operated by the University of Hong Kong. [4]

The handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China was at midnight on 1 July 1997. This event ended 156 years of British rule in the former colony. George Robert Fischer was an American underwater archaeologist, considered the founding father of the field in the National Park Service. A native Californian, he did undergraduate and graduate work at Stanford University, and began his career with the National Park Service in 1959, which included assignments in six parks, the Washington, D.C. Office, and the Southeast Archaeological Center from which he retired in 1988. He began teaching courses in underwater archaeology at Florida State University in 1974 and co-instructed inter-disciplinary courses in scientific diving techniques. After retirement from the NPS his FSU activities were expanded and his assistance helped shape the university's program in underwater archaeology.

Danny Cohen was an Israeli American computer scientist specializing in computer networking. He was involved in the ARPAnet project and helped develop various fundamental applications for the Internet. SC, the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, is the annual conference established in 1988 by the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society. In 2019, about 13,950 people participated overall; by 2022 attendance had rebounded to 11,830 both in-person and online. The not-for-profit conference is run by a committee of approximately 600 volunteers who spend roughly three years organizing each conference.

The OECC, established in 1996, is an annual conference which publishes proceedings and scientific research articles as a result of its conferences. OECC stands for the OptoElectronics and Communications Conference, which has conducted annual meetings since its establishment up to the present year. With an international scope, the areas of focus for the OECC are annual meetings in the Asia Pacific region, centered on the optoelectronics and optical communications profession. The function of the meetings are to report, discuss, exchange, and generate ideas which advance the disciplines of optoelectronics and optical communications. Communicating current and future applications related to these disciplines are also a function of these meetings.
