HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (HKUST IEMS) is a university-level institute under the Office of the Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). It is launched on May 27, 2013, [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] with 5 years of financial support from Ernst & Young. Over 30 faculty associates have joined the conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing businesses and policy-makers in emerging markets via HKUST IEMS. They mainly come from Division of Social Science in the School of Humanities and Social Science, and Departments of Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Accounting and ISOM of the School of Business and Management Archived 2013-09-05 at the Wayback Machine .

Zhang Mingjie is a Chinese structural biologist. He is Kerry Holdings Professor of Science and the Chair Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He was an overseas assessor of the Chinese Academy of Science. His research is focusing on molecular mechanisms of organization and regulation of neuronal signaling complexes and machineries in controlling cell polarity by using protein crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. In 2006, his structural and biochemical studies in signal transduction complex organization was rewarded for the State Natural Science Award, which is one of the most important national awards of science in China.

Otto Lin was born Chui Chau Lin (林垂宙) in Shantou, Guangdong, China, in 1938. He came to Hong Kong as a refugee and went to Taiwan in 1953 where education at K-12 level was free. He attended National Taiwan University and received a BS in chemical engineering in 1960. After serving in ROTC, he was admitted to University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for post-graduate studies. Later he transferred to Columbia University in the City of New York, received the Ph.D. degree in 1967 in chemistry. His doctoral research was on the relationship of macromolecular conformation and hydrodynamic properties of DNA.

In Hong Kong's universities and higher education institutions, orientation camps, also known as “Ocamp”, are held by different student organisations in order to welcome new students before their first academic year. There are different types of orientation camps. “Big ocamps” (大O) are organised by the students' union or constituent colleges, while “small ocamp” (細O) are usually organised by faculty or departmental societies with a view to welcome students who study in the same faculty. The duration of camps is usually two to seven days.

Nancy Chu Ip Yuk-yu, also known as Nancy Y. Ip in academic publications, is a Hong Kong neuroscientist. She is serving as the 5th President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) since 19 October 2022. She had served as the Vice-President of Research and Development, the Morningside Professor of Life Science, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience at the HKUST. Since December 2022, Ms. Ip has also served as the a deputy from the Hong Kong delegation to the National People's Congress and received the largest number of votes from the 1273 member Electoral Committee which elects delegates, receiving 1254 votes

China Adolescents Science & Technology Innovation Contest is one of the biggest national science competitions in China held by organizations including China Association for Science and Technology and Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Every year, more than 10 million students from all parts of China submit their projects in local-level competitions and up to 500 projects are eventually selected for the CASTIC. A few top projects are further selected to participate in competitions including Broadcom Masters International, Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, or European Union Contest for Young Scientists.

Alicia Garcia Herrero is a Spanish economist and academic who has been the chief economist for Asia-Pacific at French investment bank Natixis since June 2015.
