The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (or shortly HKUST (GZ) ) is a university in Nansha, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. The university was jointly established by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Guangzhou University. The university officially commenced in the year 2022.
In March 2017 the Mayor of Guangzhou Wen Guohui visited HKUST and invited the university to set up a school in Guangzhou. In August that year HKUST board chairman Andrew Liao and then-HKUST president Wei Shyy visited Guangzhou. [1]
On 21 December 2018 HKUST announced plans to build a campus in Guangzhou when it signed a tripartite agreement with the Guangzhou Municipal Government and Guangzhou University. A site near Qingsheng railway station was chosen since it took only 30 minutes from it to the Hong Kong West Kowloon railway station. [1] [2] [3]
In September 2019 the project received preparatory approval from the Ministry of Education. In the same month, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Nansha to mark the start of the project's construction. Kohn Pedersen Fox was chosen to design the campus. [3] [4]
On 29 June 2022 the Ministry of Education announced that it had formally approved the establishment of HKUST (GZ). [3]
On 1 September 2022 HKUST (GZ) official opened. Its opening ceremony was attended by several high level party officials which included Li Xi, Huai Jinpeng, Wang Weizhong. Former Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Leung Chun-ying as well as current Chief Executive, John Lee Ka-chiu gave speeches at the ceremony through video. [5]
HKUST and HKUST(GZ) are under "Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses" framework. Students of HKUST and HKUST(GZ) can take courses offered by both campuses, with credits mutually recognized and automatically transferable. [6]

Zhang Mingjie is a Chinese structural biologist. His research is focusing on molecular mechanisms of organization and regulation of neuronal signaling complexes and machineries in controlling cell polarity by using protein crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. In 2006, his structural and biochemical studies in signal transduction complex organization was rewarded for the State Natural Science Award, which is one of the most important national awards of science in China.

Nancy Chu Ip Yuk-yu, also known as Nancy Y. Ip in academic publications, is a Hong Kong neuroscientist. She is serving as the 5th President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) since 19 October 2022. She had served as the Vice-President of Research and Development, the Morningside Professor of Life Science, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience at the HKUST. Line 18 of the Guangzhou Metro is a rapid transit express line in Guangzhou with trains operating up to 160 km/h (99 mph). It will run in a south-north direction, connecting Wanqingsha in Nansha District, Panyu Square in Panyu District, Modiesha in Haizhu District, Zhujiang New Town and Guangzhou East Railway Station in Tianhe District. The line commenced service on 28 September 2021.
Line 22 of the Guangzhou Metro is a partially open rapid transit express line in Guangzhou with trains operating up to 160 km/h (99 mph). It runs between Panyu Square and Chentougang, passing Guangzhou South Railway Station in Panyu District, and will eventually run in a north-south direction passing Xilang and Fangcun in Liwan District. Currently, there are train attendants on board each train. In the future, trains will operate fully driverless GoA4 mode when sufficient reliability from the signaling system has been confirmed.
