HMS Royal James was a 100-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, designed by Sir Anthony Deane and built by his successor as Master Shipwright at Portsmouth Dockyard, Daniel Furzer, and launched in 1675. [1] She was renamed HMS Victory on 7 March 1691 after the old second rate Victory of 1666 was condemned by survey and taken to pieces. Recommissioned in January 1691 under Captain Edward Stanley, as the flagship of Admiral Sir John Ashby she participated in the Battle of Barfleur on 19 May 1692 – 24 May 1692.

Victory was rebuilt at Chatham Dockyard in 1694–1695. She was briefly renamed Royal George in 1714, after the Hanoverians came to the throne, but resumed the name Victory in 1715. She was partly destroyed by an accidental fire in February 1721 and was broken up, [2] though remained on the navy list until she was ostensibly rebuilt as the new HMS Victory. [3]

HMS Burford was a 70-gun third rate ship of the line built at Woolwich Dockyard in 1677/79 as part of the Thirty Ships Programme of 1677. She fought in the War of the English Succession, including the Battle of Barfleur, before being rebuilt at Deptford in 1699, remaining as a 70-gun third rate. During the War of Spanish Succession she was mostly in the Mediterranean fleet and fought at the capture of Gibraltar and the Battle of Málaga in 1704 before being extensively repaired between 1710 and 1712 at Portsmouth Dockyard. Burford served in the Baltic in 1715 and 1717 before returning to the Mediterranean to fight the Spanish at the Battle of Cape Passaro in 1718. She was wrecked on the Italian coast in a storm on 14 February 1719.

HMS Triumph was a 90-gun second rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched at Chatham Dockyard on 2 March 1697. She was renamed HMS Prince in 1714.

HMS Norwich was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched at Deptford on 24 August 1693. The last of seven 50-gun ships ordered during 1692, she was given the name of Norwich following the loss of the previous 50-gun ship of that name on 6 October 1692.

The contract for the Dartmouth was signed in 1696 with shipbuilder James Parker, for the ship to be built in his site in Southampton, taking the name of the previous Dartmouth of 1693, and she was launched there on 3 March 1698.

HMS Winchester was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, one of eight such ships authorised by the Navy Board to be newly built ; the others were the Hampshire, Dartmouth, Salisbury, Worcester, Jersey, Carlisle and Tilbury. The contract for the Winchester was signed with shipbuilders John and Richard Wells in 1696, for the ship to be built in their yard at Greenland North Dockyard, in Rotherhithe, and she was launched there on 17 March 1698.

HMS Rochester was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, and the fifth such ship to be ordered in 1692. She was launched at Chatham Dockyard on 15 March 1693.

HMS <i>Guernsey</i> (1696) Ship of the line of the Royal Navy

HMS Guernsey was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, one of four ordered in September 1694 to be built by commercial contracts; eight further ships of this type were ordered on 24 December. The Guernsey was built by Sir Henry Johnson's Blackwall Yard and launched on 6 July 1696.
