H &L Supermarket,commonly known as H &L,is a retail chain of Malaysia supermarket,owned by H &L Retail Sdn. Bhd.,Sarawak. It is known as the one of the oldest retail chains in Sarawak.
Founded in 1959 by Bong Sung Siew (simplified Chinese :黃双秀; traditional Chinese :黄雙秀),H &L Supermarket grew out of a family-operated sundry shop located at Old Batu Kawa Town,Sarawak,that registered under the shop name Chop Hon Lee (simplified Chinese :汉利; traditional Chinese :漢利). During the late 1970s until early 1980s,Chop Hon Lee was relocated to a more strategic shop location,which is known as Third Mile Maong Bazaar area nowadays. Due to its popularity among Kuching people,the double storey duo-unit corner sundry shop at the Third Mile Maong Bazaar became the famous landmark of H &L Supermarket in Sarawak. [1] [2] [3]
In 1996,Chop Hon Lee officially convert from a sole proprietorship business to a private limited company under the name H &L Supermarket (abbreviation of Hon Lee). [1] [2] In December 2016,H&Lxpress application was published in Google Apps store.
