Hacia Atherton (born November 29, 1987) is an Australian speaker, CPA and entrepreneur. She is the founder of the charity organization Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) [1]

Life and career

Atherton was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, where she attended Ruyton Girls School. [2] [3] She completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree at Deakin University in 2017, and her CPA Australia in 2020. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] In 2023 Atherton obtained her master's degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Melbourne. [9]

In 2017, while training for the World Equestrian Games, Atherton was crushed by her horse, breaking her pelvis. [10] [11] [12] After several surgeries and years of physical therapy she was able to recover. [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] During her recovery she studied with CPA Australia and began her speaking and coaching career. [19] [20]

Following her education, Hacia set up her own business, offering bookkeeping and administration services, and held a financial planner role with AMP Financial Services from 2010 to 2011. [21] [22] [23]

In 2020, she became the CCO of her family owned company of Atherton International Pty Ltd. [24] [25] [26]

She founded Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT), a charity organization in 2020. [27] [28] [29] [30] In addition to her work with EWIT, she is a speaker and consultant. Her focus is on topics such as positive psychology, leadership, and diversity in the workplace. [31] [32] [33] [34]

Hacia has been recognized for her entrepreneurship and advocacy for women in trades including 2024 Telstra Best of Business Awards Victoria Winner, Accelerating Women Award, and 2024 Inside Small Business Australia's Top 50 Small Business Leaders. [35] [36]
