Hafsat Abdulwaheed Ahmed (born May 5, 1952) is a Nigerian writer, poet, and a women's rights activist. She is the first female Hausa writer from Northern Nigeria to have written a published novel. Hafsat hails from Kofar Mata quarters of Kano City of Kano State Nigeria.[ citation needed ]
Hafsat Abdulwaheed was born on May 5, 1952. She is a Nigerian author who writes mainly in Hausa. She is a poet, and a women's rights activist. She hails from Kofar Mata quarters of Kano City, Northern Nigeria. She did her primary education at Shahuci primary School and secondary school at Provincial Girls School currently known as Shekara Girls Secondary School, both in Kano State. She started writing in her primary school days. She married Muhammed Ahmed Abdulwaheed on January 25, 1966 [1] In the early 1970s she became the first female Hausa writer to have her novel published. [2] In the 2000s, she attempted to contest in the governorship election in the Northern Nigerian State of Zamfara. She has written more than 30 books, only five of which have been published. [3] She has a number of children and the eldest among them is Kadaria Amed, a journalist [4]
Hafsat Abdulwaheed started writing when she was in primary school, where she wrote folktales and she received awards. She once received an award from the British Council when she was either in primary four or five.[ citation needed ] In 1970 she entered one of her stories, So Aljannar Duniya ("Love is Paradise on Earth"), which she wrote when she was in primary five, in a literary competition organized by the Northern Nigerian Publishing Company (NNPC). The book was inspired by the experiences of her elder sister who at that time married a Libyan and the cultural differences began to generate friction in the marriage. She reviewed and edited it before it was submitted.
The book, which is her best known book, came second in the competition. [3] So Aljannar Duniya has been adjudged by analysts as the precursor to a genre of modern Hausa writing known as Littattafan Soyayya or "Love Books", or what is known as "Kano Market Literature". Cara Giaimo [2] quotes Abdallah Uba Adamu and Graham Furniss as saying, '...it was this book that "really set the world alight to [Hausa] love-story writing...".'
Her published books in addition to So Aljannar Duniya, include Yardubu Mai Tambotsai ("'Yardubu the Possessed" - fiction), Nasiha ga Ma'aura (Admonition for the Married Couple - non-fiction), Namijin Maza Tauraron Annabawa (non-fiction on the life of Muhammad), as well as a book of poetry, her first in English, Ancient Dance. Abdulwaheed has been a member of a women's rights group in Nigeria called Baobab. When the country returned to democratic governance in 1999 after prolonged military rule, the group observed that there were no women in the cabinet of the North-Western State of Zamfara, where Hafsat has been living with her husband for many years. At one time, she said, "the leadership of the group went to visit the governor and expressed their displeasure at this development. I didn't go with them because I wasn't given to keeping quiet when I felt something wasn't right.
"When they came back, they told me that the governor had said there was no woman in Zamfara educated enough to serve in his cabinet, and I thought that was an insult, because in my house alone my daughters were very educated.
"I then said, 'Well, we are not only going to demand for the position of a commissioner, we are going to take away his seat'. And I decided that I would contest the governor's seat in the next election".
Her dream was not to be, however, because her decision was greeted with an uproar. "You know in the North it is unusual for a woman to say she wants to do anything for the public good, much less assume leadership positions", she says. Following the condemnation of her proposed candidature by Muslim scholars, the party on whose platform she wanted to contest denied her its backing and, in the end, her father prevailed on her to jettison the idea, even though she had printed posters and other campaign paraphernalia. Hausa Kingdoms, also known as Hausa Kingdom or Hausaland, was a collection of states ruled by the Hausa people, before the Fulani jihad. It was situated between the Niger River and Lake Chad. Hausaland lay between the Western Sudanic kingdoms of Ancient Ghana, Mali and Songhai and the Eastern Sudanic kingdoms of Kanem-Bornu. Hausaland took shape as a political and cultural region during the first millennium CE as a result of the westward expansion of Hausa peoples. They arrived in Hausaland when the terrain was converting from woodlands to savannah. They started cultivating grains, which led to a denser peasant population. They had a common language, laws and customs. The Hausa were known for fishing, hunting, agriculture, salt-mining, and blacksmithing.
The Hausa are a native ethnic group in West Africa. They speak the Hausa language, which is the second most spoken language after Arabic in the Afro-Asiatic language family. The Hausa traditionally live in small villages as well as in precolonial towns and cities where they grow crops, raise livestock including cattle as well as engage in trade, both local and long distance across Africa. They speak the Hausa language, an Afro-Asiatic language of the Chadic group. The Hausa aristocracy had historically developed an equestrian based culture. Still a status symbol of the traditional nobility in Hausa society, the horse still features in the Eid day celebrations, known as Ranar Sallah. Daura is the cultural center of the Hausa people. The town predates all the other major Hausa towns in tradition and culture.
Gidan Makama Museum Kano or Kano Museum is a museum in Kano, Nigeria. This building served as temporary palace of Sarakunan Hausa of Kano before the current palace Gidan Rumfa was constructed in the 15th century The museum has a significant collections of arts, crafts and items of historic interest related to the Kano area. Located in a 15th-century historical building, which is recognised as a National Monument by the Government of Nigeria. The museum is divided into 11 galleries, each with their own centre of focus. Galleries include the Zaure or the main entrance hall with displays of traditional materials, city walls and maps of Kano, the history of statehood, Kano in the 19th century, the Civil War, economy, industry and music.
Bilkisu Yusuf was a Nigerian journalist, columnist and editor for prominent newspapers in Abuja, Kano and Kaduna, Nigeria. She is known in Nigeria for being the first woman to direct a national newspaper operation and served as editor for two more. She was a Hausa, Muslim, feminist, of Yoruba descent and advocate for interfaith society, who was known for being an adviser to the Nigerian President on International Affairs and the founding of NGOs, such as Women In Nigeria (WIN) and the Federation of Muslim Women's Association (FOMWAN). Yusuf was killed in the 2015 Mina stampede while on Haj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Ibrahim Sheme is a bilingual Nigerian writer, journalist, filmmaker, and publisher. He worked as editor and correspondent of many Nigerian newspapers, including Leadership, The Tide, New Nigerian, The Reporter, and Hotline Magazine. He also authored the official biography of the number two man in the military government of General Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and the official biography of the leading Hausa musician and singer, the late Mamman Shata. He was the pioneer editor of Blueprint Newspaper and later its editor-in-chief. Sheme has been the Director of Media and Publicity at the National Open University of Nigeria since 2016

Kaduna Book and Arts Festival, also known as KABAFEST, is an annual literary, cultural, and art event in Kaduna State, Nigeria that took place for the first time in July, 2017. It was organized by Book Buzz Foundation, who also organizes the annual Aké Arts and Book Festival, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government and the Gusau Institute. It was also the first book festival that occurs annually in northern Nigeria.

She was known for the role she always played as an aggressive and mischievous actress who defied all odds to rise to stardom. She made her film debut in 2000 in Linzami Da Wuta, produced by Sarauniya Movies. Other hits such as Nagari, Gidauniya, Mashi, and Sansani followed. She affirmed that she liked playing the role of a wicked woman.
Gates of Hausa kingdoms are gates or walls (ganuwa) that formerly enclosed Hausa kingdoms. In ancient times, each kingdom was enclosed with a wall that contained various gates. During battles, the gates were closed as a war strategy. Each gate has a name and a gatekeeper. In the past, especially at night, the gatekeeper was in charge of a single gate at all time. All of the gates are assigned to a single person today.
Khalifa Sheikh Qaribullah Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Kabara Al-Malikiy, Al-Ash’ariy, Al-Qadiriy is the leader of the Qadriyyah Sufi Movement in Nigeria and the West African region. He became the Khalifa in 1996 after the death of his father, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Kabara. Hausa literature includes folk literature, much of which has been transcribed, and provides a means of recording, preserving, and transmitting knowledge, especially in regard to social, psychological, spiritual, or political roles.
Jekadefari area of Gombe State: is the combination of two different words "jeka" is a Hausa word meaning follow and "defari" meaning white. Jekadefari means "follow the white men". It was the area that white men settled then after they conquered the emir of Gombe in 1903.
