Haji Salah (Haji Saleh, Haji Salax, Xaaji Saalax) is a town in Togdheer, Somaliland, bordering Ethiopia. The town is classified as a Class D district by the Somaliland government. [1] Bilciljabe village (Bilililjabe, Bilcijabe) is located just northeast of the town. [2]
In 1948, Haji Salah was founded as a town based on around a well. [3]
Haji Salah became one of the bases when the Somali National Movement (later the Somaliland government) moved into now Somaliland. This led then Somalia President Siad Barre to burn Haji Saleh twice in 1983. [3]
In September 2000, about 30 Ethiopian soldiers attacked Haji Saleh and killed two people, for which the President of Somaliland demanded an explanation from the Ethiopian government. However, the Ethiopian government denied this. [4]
According to a 2002 report, Haji Saleh is listed as one of nine transit points used for trade with Ethiopia. [5]
In 2009, the President of Somaliland designated Haji Saleh as an official district of Somaliland. [3] According to the Somaliland Local Government Act, it is listed as Class D district. [1] )

In September 2019, a 9-year-old boy was attacked and killed by an eagle in the Haji Saleh district. [9]
In January 2020, the Somaliland government granted a 12 x 12 meter plot of land in Kur-libah, 6 kilometers from Burao, to people who had moved to Burao as refugees from Haji Saleh and other places. [10]
In November 2021, the governor of Haji Saleh requested assistance from the Somaliland government for water shortages. [11]

As of July 2019, there are a total of eight middle schools, elementary schools, and Islamic schools. It is affiliated with Amoud University in Awdal. [13]
Sool is an administrative region (gobol) in south eastern Somaliland/north western Somalia. It borders Togdheer to the west, Sanaag to the north, Ethiopia to the south and Nugal, Bari to the east. Its capital city is Las Anod. The region is disputed by the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and Puntland, a Federal Member State of Somalia. The region is partially controlled by both polities.

Mohamed Yusuf Abdirahman also known as Murad is a Somali politician, and the longest serving Mayor of Burao, the capital and the largest city of Togdheer region of Somaliland, serving from 2012 to 2021. He belongs to the Reer Biniin, Ahmed Farah sub-division of the Habr Je'lo Isaaq. He was succeeded by Abdirisaq Ibrahim Abdi on 20 June 2021 after the 2021 Somaliland municipal elections.

Kirit is a town in the Burao District, in the Togdheer region of Somaliland. The town is 92 km southeast of Burao, the regional capital. It located on the road connecting Burao and Las Anod. It belonged to the Saraar region, which was temporarily established in Somaliland.
Ahmed Abdi Mohamud Sugulle “Habsade” is a Puntland and Somaliland politician. He was a decorated Colonel in the Somali Armed Forces and the second in command of the Somali Custodial Corps equivalent to that of the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri but the Custodial Corps fall under the Ministry of the Interior and are part of the Police Force. A politician and respected elder later in life (he was instrumental in the founding of Somaliland and became the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives. In 1998, he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Puntland but was dismissed in 2007 after a conflict with Mohamud Muse Hersi, who became President of Puntland in 2006. In 2007, he brought Somaliland troops into Las Anod, leading to Somaliland's effective control of the Sool region. He served as various Somaliland Ministers of state from 2008. In 2014, Abdiweli Gaas became President of Puntland and he come back to Puntland.
