Halfdan E (Halfdan E Nielsen, [1] [2] born November 21, 1965) is a Danish film composer. His work has won two Danish Grammy Awards and three Danish Robert Awards. His music for the television series Borgen has also won the 2011 FIPA prize. [1]

Biography

Halfdan E was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. After stints as a session bass player in many different rock bands in the 1980s and early 1990s, followed by a degree from the Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Halfdan E collaborated with Danish poet Dan Turèll on the crossover project "Pas På Pengene", resulting in two CD recordings, which both won Danish Grammy awards. [3] He continued to compose for film and television, working with film directors such as Per Fly and Hans Petter Moland, and to work as a pop and rock producer. He wrote the score for Per Fly's TV-series Forestillinger. Halfdan E has been awarded three Danish Robert Awards out of five nominations. [4] [5] In 2012, he composed a new four-tone notification sound for the Banedanmark Danish state railway, replacing the three-tone sound composed by Niels Viggo Bentzon and used since the early 1980s. Denmark participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 with the song "Never Ever Let You Go" written by Søren Poppe, Stefan Nielsen and Thomas Brekling. The song was performed by the duo Rollo and King. In addition to participating in the contest, the Danish broadcaster DR also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest after winning the competition in 2000 with the song "Fly on the Wings of Love" performed by the Olsen Brothers. DR organised the national final Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2001 in order to select the Danish entry for the 2001 contest in Copenhagen. Ten songs competed in a televised show where "Der står et billede af dig på mit bord" performed by Rollo and King was the winner as decided upon through two rounds of jury voting and public voting. The song was later translated from Danish to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Never Ever Let You Go".

In Denmark, Borgen, lit.'The Castle', is the informal name of Christiansborg Palace where all three branches of Danish government reside: the Parliament, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Supreme Court, and is often used as a stand in term for the Danish Parliament (Folketinget).

Fenar Ahmad is a Danish filmmaker of Iraqi origin. He was born in 1981 in Czechoslovakia to immigrant Iraqi parents. In 1986 the family emigrated to Denmark. There he studied film in the alternative film school Super16.
