The Hall of Famous Missourians is located in Jefferson City, Missouri. The hall is a series of privately funded bronze busts displayed in the Missouri State Capitol between the Missouri Senate and House chambers. [1] The busts, created by Missouri sculptors Sabra Tull Meyer, E. Spencer Schubert, and William J. Williams, depict prominent Missourians honored for their achievements and contributions to the state. As of 2013 [update] , there were 44 inductees.
Prior to 2013, all inductees were selected by the sitting Missouri Speaker of the House solely. However, the selection of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh to the Hall in 2012 met with strong controversy. [1] With the 2013 induction class, two of the four to be enshrined were selected via votes cast on a web page established by the Missouri House. Two others in 2013 were still chosen by the Speaker, but were uncontroversial in nature. [1]

The Limbaugh family is a prominent political family from Missouri. Its members have served as attorneys, politicians, judges, and political commentators in Missouri and the United States. The most well-known member is former conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. The first family member in America, Georg Friedrich Limbach was born in Germany circa 1737 and immigrated to the United States, arriving in 1753 to Berks County, Pennsylvania as a young man. In 1758, George married Anna Catharine Ritter and had six sons. George settled in Missouri Territory in 1800 with his youngest son Michael and 19 other families. The family developed ties to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and served in a number of municipal capacities, including the governance of Southeast Missouri State University.
John Jordan "Buck" O'Neil Jr. was an American first baseman and manager in the Negro American League, mostly with the Kansas City Monarchs. After his playing days, he worked as a scout and became the first African American coach in Major League Baseball. In his later years he became a popular and renowned speaker and interview subject, helping to renew widespread interest in the Negro leagues, and played a major role in establishing the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022 as an executive.
The Rush Limbaugh Show was an American conservative talk radio show hosted by Rush Limbaugh. Since its nationally syndicated premiere in 1988, The Rush Limbaugh Show became the highest-rated talk radio show in the United States. At its peak, the show aired on over 650 radio stations nationwide.
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is located in Springfield, Missouri, United States. Founded in 1994 by Springfield businessman John Q. Hammons, the Hall of Fame is housed in a two-story, 32,000-square-foot building. On display are more than 4,000 items of sports memorabilia and exhibits related to Missouri amateur and professional athletics. Various interactive attractions allow visitors to simulate driving a NASCAR race car, stepping into the batters box against a Major League Baseball pitcher, and throwing football passes. The Columbia Missourian is a digital-first newspaper based in Columbia, Missouri, published online seven days a week and in print five days a week. The newspaper is affiliated with the Missouri School of Journalism, and is owned as a 501c3 non-profit under the Missourian Publishing Association. The Alabama Academy of Honor recognizes one hundred living Alabamians for outstanding accomplishments and services to Alabama and the United States. By act of the Alabama Legislature, only one hundred living people may be members at any time. Up to ten additional members per year are elected by current members when honorees pass away, by majority vote in order of highest vote total. Any Alabama citizen or Academy member may nominate people for election. Living present and past governors of Alabama are automatically members of the Academy and do not count against the 100-person maximum. At any time, no more than twenty-five percent of the Academy's members may be politicians.
E. Spencer Schubert is an American artist and sculptor known for his busts and monumental sculpture. He has created monuments for a variety of cities, universities and private collections including three monumental sculptures of town founders in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the Sacred Heart of Jesus sculpture for Benedictine College and a sculpture of football coach Bill Snyder for Kansas State University.
