Hamilton Boyd was an American politician who served as mayor of Portland,Oregon,in 1868-69. He is thought to have come to Portland in 1860,worked as an assistant county clerk,and later worked as an accountant in the Ladd &Tilton bank. He was elected to a two-year term as county commissioner in 1868 and served as mayor from 1868 to 1869. He was elected mayor on June 16,1868, [1] and assumed office later that month. He was succeeded as mayor by Bernard Goldsmith in 1869. [1]
Sources differ on when Boyd died,with at least one source saying he died in Portland in 1886, [2] while The Oregonian reported that he died in March 1883. [3]
He is buried in the Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland. [4]
Sylvester Pennoyer was an American educator,attorney,and politician in Oregon. He was born in Groton,New York,attended Harvard Law School,and moved to Oregon at age 25. A Democrat,he served two terms as the eighth Governor of Oregon from 1887 to 1895. He joined the Populist cause in the early 1890s and became the second Populist Party state governor in history. He was also noted for his prickly attitude toward both U.S. Presidents whose terms overlapped his own -- Benjamin Harrison and Cleveland,whom he once famously told via telegram to mind his own business.

After the war,he moved to Lakeview,Oregon,where he became the area's first practicing attorney and was co-founder of the Lake County Examiner. Cogswell was elected to two four-year terms in the Oregon State Senate. During his tenure in the legislature,he was known as a conservative Democrat;however,near the end of his second term in the senate,he became a Republican. After retiring from his law practice,Cogswell moved to Portland,Oregon,where he was active in business and engaged in public service.
