Hamza Shaikh (born 29 May 2006) is an English cricketer who plays for Warwickshire County Cricket Club. He is a right-handed batsman and legbreak bowler.
Born in Birmingham,Shaikh attended Eden Boys School,Perry Barr [1] and Sandwell College,where he studied a BTEC in Sports Coaching &Development. He joined Warwickshire at under-10 level. [2] [3] He played club cricket for Knowle &Dorridge in the Birmingham and District League. [4]
He signed a professional contract as a 16 year-old with Warwickshire in June 2022. [5] In 2022,he was 12th man for the England Test team at Edgbaston against India. [6] He made his List-A cricket debut for Warwickshire on 12 August 2022,against Sussex. [7] He extended his contract with Warwickshire in October 2022,agreeing to a two-year deal. [8]
He played for England U19 at the 2024 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. [9] [10] He went on to captain the England U19 side in the summer of 2024,scoring a century against Sri Lanka U19 in July 2024. [11] In December 2024,he travelled with the England Lions on their tour of South Africa. [12] Subsequently Sheikh was included in the England Lions squad to tour Australia in January 2025. [13] [14]
Obstructing the field is one of the ten methods of dismissing a batsman in the sport of cricket. Either batsman can be given out if he wilfully attempts to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action. It is Law 37 of the Laws of cricket,and is a rare way for a batsman to be dismissed;in the history of cricket,there has been only two instances in Test matches,nine in One Day International (ODI) matches,and six in Twenty20 International matches. There have also been seven instances in Test cricket,and two in ODIs,where a batsman has been dismissed handled the ball,a mode of dismissal now folded into obstructing the field.
Edgbaston Cricket Ground in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham,England,is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club and its T20 team Birmingham Bears. Edgbaston has also been the venue for Test matches,One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. Edgbaston has hosted the T20 Finals Day more than any other cricket ground. Edgbaston is the main home ground for the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred competition from 2021.

Timothy Raymond Ambrose is a retired Australian-born English cricketer who played all three formats of the game internationally. He was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. He began his domestic career with Sussex County Cricket Club in 2000,although he went on to play for Warwickshire. He represented England but lost his place to Matt Prior in 2009. Ambrose retired from cricket at the end of the 2020 season.

He also played first-class cricket for Loughborough UCCE in 2003 and 2004 having made his first-class debut for Sussex in 2002,against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
