Field hockey at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Olympic Hockey Centre located within the Helliniko Olympic Complex. The competitions for both men and women was split into two groups with the top two teams after the preliminary rounds progressing through to the semi-finals.

FC Anyang is a South Korean professional football club based in Anyang that competes in the K League 2, the second tier of South Korean football. Founded in 2013, they play their home games at Anyang Stadium.

The IIHF announced the winning bid on 23 May 2014 in Minsk, Belarus. South Korea made its debut at the World Championship, having played in the lower divisions previously.
The 2015 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. The tournament was supposed to be held in Bangalore, India from July 2 to 12, but according to FIBA's official tournament website, it is scheduled to be played in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 29 to November 7.
The men's tournament of the 2014 Asian Games Basketball Competition was held from 20 September to 3 October 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. China was the defending Gold medal winners of the competition in 2010, which they won in their home soil. South Korea emulated that feat by winning the Gold Medal in Incheon in 2014. Iran and Japan completed the podium by winning the Silver and Bronze medals, respectively. Games of the tournament were held at the 7,406 seat Samsan World Gymnasium, and the 5,158 seat Hwaseong Sports Complex.

The Australia Cup was a women's international soccer tournament hosted annually in Australia between 1999 and 2004.
Qualification for the women's tournament at the 2018 Winter Olympics determined by the IIHF World Ranking following the 2016 Women's Ice Hockey World Championships. The top five teams in the World Ranking received automatic berths into the Olympics, South Korea has received an automatic berth as host, and all other member nations had an opportunity to qualify for the remaining two spots.
The men's tournament in ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held in Gangneung, South Korea between 14 and 25 February 2018. Twelve countries qualified for the tournament; eight of them did so automatically by virtue of their ranking by the International Ice Hockey Federation, one, South Korea, automatically qualified as hosts, while the three others took part in a qualification tournament.

The 2017 IIHF World Championship Division I was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Group A was contested in Kyiv, Ukraine from 22 to 28 April 2017 and Group B in Belfast, United Kingdom from 23 to 29 April 2017. South Korea and Austria were promoted to the 2018 World Championship. It marked the first time South Korea had earned promotion to the top tier of the World Championship.
The People's Republic of China competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. China won 289 medals, leading the medal count for the tenth time in Asian Games history.

It was the 18th appearance of the country at the Asian Games, except the first edition in Delhi. As one of the best competitors at the Games, South Korea's best achievement was in the 2002 Busan, with the acquisition of 96 gold, 80 silver and 84 bronze medals. At the latest edition in 2014 Incheon, the country had collected 79 gold, 71 silver, and 84 bronze medals.
