Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins.
Gaelic games are a set of sports played worldwide, though they are particularly popular in Ireland, where they originated. They include Gaelic football, hurling, Gaelic handball and rounders. Football and hurling, the most popular of the sports, are both organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Women's versions of hurling and football are also played: camogie, organised by the Camogie Association of Ireland, and ladies' Gaelic football, organised by the Ladies' Gaelic Football Association. While women's versions are not organised by the GAA, they are closely associated with it but are still separate organisations.

The 2022 Asian Men's Handball Championship was the 20th edition of the Asian Men's Handball Championship, held from 18 to 31 January 2022 in Saudi Arabia under the aegis of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and Asian Handball Federation (AHF). It was the second time in history that the championship was organised by the Saudi Arabian Handball Federation (SAHF). It also acted as a qualification tournament for the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship, with the top five teams from the championship directly qualifying for the event.
Malaysia participated in the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from 12 to 23 May 2022. The Malaysian contingent consisted of 584 athletes, competing in 37 out 40 sports, 58 percent of which are debutants.
The 2022 Women's Beach Handball World Championships was the ninth edition of the championship, held from 21 to 26 June 2022 at Heraklion, Crete. Greece under the aegis of International Handball Federation (IHF). It was the first time in history that the championship will be organised by Hellenic Handball Federation.

The group stage and semi-finals were played in Việt Trì and Nam Định, while Hanoi hosted the bronze and gold medal matches. Men's teams are restricted to under-23 players with a maximum of three over-aged players allowed.
Beach handball men's tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games is scheduled to be held from 6 to 11 May 2022 in Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh, Vietnam. There are four participating teams. A double round robin format was adopted.
