The Harborview Terrace Houses is a two-building public housing project owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). The housing complex is located between West 54th to 56th Streets and 10th and 11th Avenues in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. [2] Building I has 16 Floors, where the management office is located, and Building II has 15 Floors.
The housing complex was completed by NYCHA in June 1977 and formally dedicated on November 15, 1977. [1] [3] Designed by architect Herbert L. Mandel, the project was built using air rights over the West Side Line. [4]
In 2005, an agreement made as part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project called for the development of 155 affordable housing units on the site. Several proposals have been made to redevelop a parking lot on the site with new housing, but plans have been stalled since 2019. [5]
The 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m2) Open Outdoor Space Area right outside of the Harborview Terrace Complex was upgraded in November 10, 2023 with a new basketball and a pickleball court and enhanced seating. It also had new murals on the walls and also asphalt art. [6]
