Hari Narain (1922 -2011) was a renowned Indian geophysicist and 15th Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. [1] [2] [3]
Narain did his B.Sc.,M.Sc.,and D.Phil in 1950 from the University of Allahabad under KS Krishnan. He later earned his Ph.D. from Sydney University in 1954 and D.Sc from Indian School of Mines,Dhanbad in 1978. [1]
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a collegiate,central,and research university located in Varanasi,Uttar Pradesh,India,and founded in 1916. The university incorporated the Central Hindu College,founded by Indian Home Rule-leaguer and Theosophist,Annie Besant in 1898. After Besant and her associates were marginalised,the university was established by Madan Mohan Malaviya with the support of the maharaja of Darbhanga Rameshwar Singh,the maharaja of Benares Prabhu Narayan Singh,and the lawyer Sunder Lal. With over 30,000 students,and 18,000 residing on campus,BHU is the largest residential university in Asia. The university is one of the eight public institutions declared as an Institute of Eminence by the Government of India. It is also one of the 12 institutions from India in BRICS Universities League,a consortium of leading research universities from BRICS countries.
Vasant Shankar Huzurbazar was an Indian statistician from Kolhapur. Huzurbazar was the founder head of the department of statistics,University of Pune from 1953 to 1976. From 1976 to 1979,he was visiting professor of statistics at the University of Manitoba. From 1979 to 1991,he served as professor at University of Denver,Colorado until his death. He served as visiting professor for two years to the Iowa State University in 1962.
Patcha Ramachandra Rao was a metallurgist and administrator. He has the unique distinction of being the only Vice-Chancellor (2002–05) of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) who was also a student (1963–68) and faculty (1964–92) at that institution. From 1992 to 2002,Rao was the Director of the National Metallurgical Laboratory,Jamshedpur. After his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of B.H.U.,in 2005,he took the reins of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) as its first Vice-Chancellor. He was to serve DIAT until his superannuation in 2007. From 2007 till the end,Rao was a Raja Ramanna Fellow at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials,in Hyderabad,Andhra Pradesh.
Faculty of Arts,Banaras Hindu University is a faculty in the Banaras Hindu University,Varanasi,India which offers courses in Humanities along with various professional and vocational courses except social sciences. It was founded in 1898 and is the oldest and largest faculty in the University. Faculty of Arts was formerly known as the Central Hindu College (1898–1916). In 1916,the Banaras Hindu University grew around the nucleus of the Faculty of Arts.
Madhu Sudan Kanungo was an Indian scientist in the field of gerontology and neuroscience as well as a teacher of molecular biology and biochemistry. He is known for his theories on how gene expression changes with age and the role of this phenomenon in ageing,which is a widely accepted as "Gene expression theory of Aging". In recognition of his contributions,he was awarded India's fourth highest civilian award,Padma Shri in 2005. He held the post of BHU Emeritus professor in zoology at the Banaras Hindu University and was also the Chancellor,Nagaland University till his death.

Prana Krushna Parija OBE was an Indian botanist. His research work comprised mainly fundamental and applied aspects of plant physiology,experimental plant morphology,and ecological studies of plant environment. He studied water hyacinth and other aquatic weeds,respiration in leaves and apples,transpiration and heat resistance in plants,rice and algae and storage of apples.
The vice-chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (VC-BHU) is the chief administrator,and a full-time salaried officer of the Banaras Hindu University. The vice-chancellor derives their powers from sections 7(B) and 7(C) of the Banaras Hindu University Act and from the statutes of the said act.
Lalji Singh FNA,FASc was an Indian scientist who worked in the field of DNA fingerprinting technology in India,where he was popularly known as the "Father of Indian DNA fingerprinting". Singh also worked in the areas of molecular basis of sex determination,wildlife conservation forensics and evolution and migration of humans. In 2004,he received the Padma Shri in recognition of his contribution to Indian science and technology.

A Raja Ramanna fellow of the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Atomic Energy,he is an elected fellow of all three major Indian science academies:Indian National Science Academy,Indian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences,India. He is a Senior Fellow of the Cell Stress Society International (USA). The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research,the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research,awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology,one of the highest Indian science awards,in 1989,for his contributions to biological sciences.

Amar Chand Joshi was an Indian botanist and academic administrator,who served as the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University,Chandigarh,India;and the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University,Varanasi,India. The standard author abbreviation Joshi is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name. Joshi co authored a book titled Lahore District Flora with Shiv Ram Kashyap. It was published by Punjab University in 1936.
Iqbal Narain (1930–1996) was an Indian academician,social scientist,and the 16th Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. He was the chief editor of Political Science Review,member of several government committees,and wrote articles in Economic and Political Weekly. He has also served as the Vice-chancellor of University of Rajasthan. Narain died in 1996.
