Haridwar Prasad Singh (also known as H.P Singh) was an Indian politician based in Bihar,who was elected to Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Arrah Lok Sabha constituency. He was elected to 12th Lok Sabha and he defeated Chandradeo Prasad Verma of Rashtriya Janata Dal to become a parliamentarian. Singh was a member of Samata Party while he was elected to Lok Sahha. [1]
Singh was born on 27 September 1947 to L.P Singh in Bhojpur district of Bihar. He was educated till matriculation and married at an early age to B. Devi. In early part of his life,he worked as an agriculturist and trade union leader. His political career got a boost when he was elected to 12th Lok Sabha in 1998 Indian General Elections. In his role as a parliamentarian,he became a member of Committee on Public Undertakings and Committee on Human Resource Development. He also remained a member of consultative committee on food and consumer affairs. [1] [2] [3]
Singh was also engaged in numerous socio-cultural activities. He worked for upliftment of downtrodden and also worked for people affected by natural disasters. Singh also worked for environmental conservation. [1]
Singh was a vice president of Paradeep port labour union and General Secretary of Food Corporation of India workers' union. He was also a member of minerals and Metals Trading Corporation Workers' Union. For the upliftment of downtrodden,he founded Bharatiya Samajik Utthan Sansthan. He was also known for his initiative in the sector of education and was one of the members of Ghanshyam Hemlata Vidya Mandir Society. Besides these,he was also associated with Minimum Wages Advisory Committee and Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee of the Eastern Railway. [1]
Singh was commemorated in 2013,for his role in labour movement. The commemoration ceremony was held in a cultural program organised to mourn his death which ended his years long role in upliftment of labourers by ensuring humane working condition and living wage. This ceremony was hosted by Arrah district unit of Akhil Bhartiya Kushwaha Mahasabha. [4]
The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation is a communist political party in India. The party is represented in Bihar and Jharkhand Legislative Assemblies. Since 2023,the party is also a member of the INDIA electoral alliance. In Bihar,the party has significant base amongst the Extremely Backward Castes and the Schedule Castes. It was successful in mobilising Upper Backward Caste groups such as Koeris in some districts of central Bihar,prior to the rise of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The party faced existential crisis when a large section of its Koeri and Yadav support base was defected to Rashtriya Janata Dal in 1990s. However,the ideological commitment of its cadre protected it from disintegration. It staged a comeback in politics after winning twelve seats in Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2020 and by sending two of its members to Lok Sabha in 2024 Indian general elections.
Although India is a parliamentary democracy,the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism,possibly due to the absence of party organizations,independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party,or centralized financing of elections. The dynastic phenomenon is present at the national,state,regional,and district level. The Nehru–Gandhi family has produced three Indian prime ministers,and family members have largely led the Congress party since 1978. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has several dynastic leaders. In addition to the major national parties,other national and regional parties such as Shiromani Akali Dal,Shiv Sena,Samajwadi Party,Rashtriya Janata Dal,Janata Dal Secular,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam,Kerala Congress,Jammu &Kashmir National Conference,Indian Union Muslim League,AIMIM,and the Nationalist Congress Party are all dominated by families,mostly those of the party founders.
Subodh Kant Sahay is an Indian politician. He served as three term MP of India. He represented the Ranchi constituency of Jharkhand and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He had been holding important portfolios. He was the Cabinet Minister for Tourism until 28 Oct 2012. He is referred as one of the closest to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and former UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi. According to sources,Sonia Gandhi knew him for his truth and hard work. He was the Minister for Home in V.P. Singh government. Sahay was asked to resign in 2012 from his ministerial post by Manmohan Singh in light of favoring his brother in allocation of coal mine blocks in the infamous Coal Scam.
Ram Kripal Yadav is an Indian politician and a member of the 17th Lok Sabha from the Pataliputra parliamentary constituency in Bihar. He was a member of Rashtriya Janata Dal and was a close confidant of Lalu Yadav. Later he joined Bharatiya Janata Party.
