Port Adelaide Football Club is a professional Australian rules football club based in Alberton, South Australia. The club's senior team plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), where they are nicknamed the Power, whilst its reserves team competes in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), where they are nicknamed the Magpies. Since its founding, the club has won 36 SANFL premierships and 4 Championship of Australia titles, in addition to their AFL Premiership in 2004.

North Adelaide Football Club, nicknamed The Roosters, is an Australian rules football club affiliated with the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and SANFL Women's League (SANFLW). The club plays its home games at Prospect Oval, located in Prospect, a northern suburb of Adelaide. The club joined the SAFA in 1888 as the Medindie Football Club, changing its name to North Adelaide in 1893. It is the fourth oldest club still in operation in the SANFL after South Adelaide (1877), Port Adelaide (1877) and Norwood (1878). North Adelaide's first premiership was won in 1900, and the club has won a total of fourteen senior men's premierships in the SANFL, most recently in 2018.

Betts was originally drafted by Carlton with pick No. 3 in the 2004 Pre-Season Draft, where he played for nine years before Adelaide signed him as a free agent at the end of 2013. He moved back to Carlton at the conclusion of the 2019 season, where he would finish his career at the end of the 2021 season having played a total of 350 games and kicked 640 goals. Betts now works as a development coach at the Geelong Football Club.

William Harold Oliver was an Australian rules footballer. Harold Oliver was a key player to some of South Australian football's most successful teams. After being close to retiring from the game after World War I, he returned to captain both Port Adelaide to the 1921 SAFL premiership and South Australia in a game against Western Australia. His reputation as an early exponent of the spectacular mark—along with his general skill at playing the game—saw him regarded as one of the best players South Australia has produced.
Henry "Tick" Phillips was an Australian footballer and champion player for Port Adelaide. He is widely considered to be the club's greatest player of the nineteenth century. Phillips played sixteen seasons for Port Adelaide. For his final two seasons, he was appointed captain.

He was the Port Adelaide Football Club's leading goal kicker on four occasions and won the club's best and fairest in 1931. He enlisted for duty during World War I on 16 February 1917 and was part of the 5th Machine Gun Battalion. He returned to Australia on 5 July 1919 and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal for his duties.

The match saw one of seven South Australian Football League (SAFL) clubs in Port Adelaide take on a composite team of players from the remaining 6 clubs. Port Adelaide won the match by 58 points.
