Thomas Edward Garland was an Australian rules footballer for West Torrens and Port Adelaide. [2] His father, also Tom Garland, was a notable trade unionist. [3]

He was, however, drafted by the Brisbane Lions with the fifth selection in the 2009 pre-season draft. He served as the captain of the Brisbane Lions in 2015 and 2016.
