Harrisonburg Transit is the municipally-owned public transportation system for the City of Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. The system is operated by the Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation (HDPT). Funding for the bus service is provided by the Virginia Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Transportation, James Madison University, and the City of Harrisonburg. [1]

Services

Much of the scheduled bus service is focused around JMU at the Godwin Transit Center with other main transfer points for city routes being on East Market Street at the Cloverleaf Shopping Center and the transfer hub at East Gay Street. [2] HDPT also provides regular daily school transportation, using a fleet of approximately 50 school buses, as well as for field trips and sporting events. [3] Paratransit service is offered for persons who have disabilities as prescribed under the Americans with Disabilities Act. [4]

Harrisonburg Transit's buses are mostly Gillig Low Floor buses with one Gillig Phantom bus. As of July 2016, the fleet consists of 39 fixed route transit buses with model years ranging from 2003 to 2015 (not including paratransit, school, or activity buses).

Cambus is a public transport bus system, primarily serving the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, Iowa. The service is intended to provide transportation for students, faculty, and staff around the main campus, University of Iowa Research Park, residence halls, and commuter parking lots. Cambus is a no-fare service open to the general public. Cambus provides approximately 4,500,000 rides per year.

Chapel Hill Transit

Chapel Hill Transit operates public bus and van transportation services within the contiguous municipalities of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the southeast corner of Orange County in the Research Triangle metropolitan region of North Carolina. Chapel Hill Transit operates its fixed route system fare free due to a contractual agreement with the two towns and the university to share annual operating and capital costs.

The Jule

The Jule, formerly known as KeyLine Transit, is the operator of mass transit within the City of Dubuque, Iowa. The Jule offers transit bus routes throughout the city, trolley-replica transportation in Downtown Dubuque and the Port of Dubuque, and on-demand paratransit "MiniBus" service citywide. As of the 2011 rebranding, the transit system and city are now both named after Julien Dubuque. In FY 2010, the Jule recorded 371,000 rides.

Blacksburg Transit

Blacksburg Transit, or simply BT, is a local government-owned urban-suburban bus line based in Blacksburg, Virginia. The system originated in 1983 with six buses, but has since expanded its operation to 51 fixed-route buses, 15 body-on-chassis vehicles and 2 vans. Ridership exceeds 4 million passenger trips per year. Its ridership is dominated by Virginia Tech students who account for approximately 90 percent of all riders, with the remaining percentage being split between Tech faculty and staff, and other Blacksburg citizens. Blacksburg Transit serves the towns of Blacksburg, Christiansburg and limited unincorporated portions of Montgomery County.

St. Catharines Transit

St. Catharines Transit (SCT) provides bus service to St. Catharines, Ontario, and the neighbouring city of Thorold. The St. Catharines Transit Commission took over operation of transit services within the city from Canadian National Transportation in 1961.

Greater Lynchburg Transit Company

The Greater Lynchburg Transit Company is the non-profit, publicly owned company responsible for providing bus service for Lynchburg, Virginia, since its creation in 1974. The GLTC Board of Directors sets and is responsible for both the general policies as well as the selection of the management company responsible for operation the service. The Board is composed of nine-members that are appointed by the Lynchburg City Council. As of 2015, First Transit is responsible for the operation of the network, and their subsidiary, Central Virginia Transit Management Company is oversees the actual employment of the GLTC's bus drivers, mechanics, and other staff.

Gainesville Regional Transit System

South Bend TRANSPO

The South Bend Public Transportation Corporation is a municipal bus system that serves the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka, as well as the nearby suburbs of Notre Dame and Roseland, in the very north of the U.S. state of Indiana. It is the most recent incarnation of the South Bend Railway Company, a street railway company that was founded on May 25, 1885.

The Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation (COAST) is the primary provider of mass transportation for the Seacoast region of New Hampshire, as well as parts of southern Maine. COAST is a non-profit agency founded in 1981 to provide public transportation options in southeastern New Hampshire. First established solely as a private contractor to previously existing bus lines, COAST now runs its own set of public transit routes and transports almost 500,000 passengers per year.

Long Beach Bus

Long Beach Bus is a public transportation system serving Greater Long Beach on the south shore of Long Island, New York. The service operates twenty-four hours a day, with five different routes connecting to one another and to Nassau Inter-County Express and Long Island Rail Road at Long Beach Station in the city center. Although Long Beach Bus is designed to complement county bus and commuter rail service, it is run independently by Long Beach DOT.

Shuttle–UM

Shuttle-UM is a transit system for the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), which constitutes the UM acronym of the company, that operates as a unit of the university's Department of Transportation Services. The system is student-run and is supported by student fees and the university's Student Affairs department. Its fleet consists of over 60 vehicles and transports approximately three million rides a year. The system provides four different services: commuter, evening, charter, and demand response. The latter consists of a paratransit service and a call response curb-to-curb service during the evening, while the former consists of a bus service that runs for 24 hours, seven days a week. Implied by its name, the bus service routes "shuttle" passengers to and from the university with over 20 different routes. Paid upon admission by students to the university, the services are complimentary and only certain services require university identification badges. In 2012, the company expanded to provide service to the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus under the name, UM Shuttle. Additionally, a new facility was built to house Shuttle-UM's operations and fleet within the campus after over 30 years of being housed off campus.
