Hasib Qoway Markaz (Persian : حسیب قوای مرکز, born January 28, 1992) is an Afghan military commander and one of the senior commanders of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. He is one of the key commanders under the command of Ahmad Massoud and one of the most prominent anti-Taliban figures. He is now in charge of the special forces of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan in Panjshir province.
Hasib Qoway Markaz or (Hasib Panjshiri) was born on January 28, 1992, in Abdara, Panjshir province. In 2014, after completing higher military education, he entered the special units of the (National Directorate of Security). Hasib left the NDS in 2018. Later in 2019, he broadcast a video tape and claimed that the NDS asked him to assassinate six of the country's elites, [1] but he refused. [2] After these statements, the National Security Directorate of Afghanistan issued a warrant for his arrest. In a statement, the Ministry of Interior accused Hasib of three murders. [3] and stated that he will be arrested soon. On March 24, 2019, special forces of National Directorate of Security (NDS) and the Ministry of Interior of Afghanistan(MOA) went to Panjshir province to arrest him. After several hours of fighting, the Afghan Ministry of Interior announced that the operation to capture Hasib by the central forces had failed.
After the fall of the Republic of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, Commander Hasib with the forces under his command, led by Ahmad Massoud, prepared for armed defense against the Taliban. With frequent Taliban attacks on Panjshir Valley and bloody conflicts in this province, he was able to inflict heavy casualties on the Taliban, [4] but due to the lack of ammunition, lack of sufficient forces and the breaking of the battle lines by Taliban infiltrators, Hasib with the forces under his command had to retreat. [5]
In 2022, during the chain of conflicts and intense attacks by the Taliban in the Panjshir Valley, Commander Hasib managed to shoot down a fleet of Russian Mi-17 helicopters belonging to Taliban forces. He captured two Taliban pilots and one senior commander who were onboard the chopper. [6]
Ahmad Shah Massoud was an Afghan military leader and politician. He was a guerrilla commander during the resistance against the Soviet occupation during the Soviet–Afghan War from 1979 to 1989. In the 1990s, he led the government's military wing against rival militia, and actively fought against the Taliban, from the time the regime rose to power in 1996, and until his assassination in 2001.

The Panjshir Valley, also spelled Panjsher, is a valley in northeastern Afghanistan, 150 kilometres (93 mi) north of Kabul, near the Hindu Kush mountain range. It is divided by the Panjshir River. The valley is home to more than 100,000 people, including Afghanistan's largest concentration of ethnic Tajiks as of 1997. In April 2004, it became the heart of the new Panjshir Province, having previously been part of Parwan Province. Politically, this province has been considered the start point of Afghanistan's Jihad period against the Soviets. This province is also the birthplace of Afghanistan's national hero, Ahmad Shah Massoud.
The Northern Alliance, officially known as the United Islamic National Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan, was a military alliance of groups that operated between early 1992 and 2001 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. At that time, many non-Pashtun Northerners originally with the Republic of Afghanistan led by Mohammad Najibullah became disaffected with Pashtun Khalqist Afghan Army officers holding control over non-Pashtun militias in the North. Defectors such as Rashid Dostum and Abdul Momim allied with Ahmad Shah Massoud and Ali Mazari forming the Northern Alliance. The alliance's capture of Mazar-i-Sharif and more importantly the supplies kept there crippled the Afghan military and began the end of Najibullah's government. Following the collapse of Najibullah's government the Alliance would fall with a Second Civil War breaking out however following the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan's (Taliban) takeover of Kabul, The United Front was reassembled.
Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, or Bismillah Khan, is an Afghan politician who served as the defense minister of Afghanistan from 2012 to 2015 and for two months in 2021. From 2002 to 2010, he served as Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army, and from 2010 to 2012 he held the post of Interior Minister of Afghanistan. He has an anti-Taliban background and once served as a senior commander under Ahmad Shah Massoud. Despite the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in August 2021, Mohammadi claims to remain the minister of defense as part of the government of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan.

Bāzārak is the provincial capital of Panjshir Province, in the Panjshir Valley of northeastern Afghanistan. It is a small city with a total population of 24,723 as of 2015 and has only three police districts (nahias). The headquarters of the NDS was in Kabul, and it had field offices and training facilities in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. The NDS was part of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
General Mohammad Panah was a Tajik Afghanistan military commander who was loyal to Ahmad Shah Massoud. Panah gained popularity after successfully fighting in Soviet incursions in the Panjsher Valley and northern areas of Afghanistan. Following the withdrawal of USSR forces from Afghanistan and the subsequent collapse of the communist regime in Kabul, Panah was a commander alongside Mohammad Fahim in the northern Kabul fronts; he fought the Hezb-e-islami, Hekmatyar, and the Taliban afterwards. He was killed in Paghman District during a Taliban offensive in Kabul.

Abdullah Abdullah is an Afghan politician who led the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) from May 2020 until August 2021, when the Afghan government was overthrown by the Taliban. The council had been established to facilitate peace talks between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban insurgents. Abdullah served as the Chief Executive of Afghanistan from September 2014 to March 2020, and as Minister of Foreign Affairs from December 2001 to April 2005. Prior to that, he was a senior member of the Northern Alliance, working as an adviser to Ahmad Shah Massoud. He worked as an ophthalmologist and medical doctor in the 1980s.
Amrullah Saleh is an Afghan politician who served as the first vice president of Afghanistan from February 2020 to August 2021, and acting interior minister from 2018 to 2019. He was the head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) from 2004 to 2010.

Ahmad Massoud is an Afghan politician who is the founder and leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. He is the eldest son of anti-Soviet military leader Ahmad Shah Massoud. He was appointed as the CEO of Massoud Foundation in November 2016. On 5 September 2019, he was declared his father's successor at his mausoleum in the Panjshir Valley. As a result, he has sometimes been referred to as the "Young Lion of Panjshir". After the Taliban seized control of Panjshir Valley on 6 September 2021, Massoud fled to Tajikistan along with former Vice President Amrullah Saleh.
The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), also known as the Second Resistance, is a military alliance of former Northern Alliance members and other anti-Taliban fighters loyal to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The founder and president of NRF is Ahmad Massoud. When the Taliban captured Afghanistan on 15 August 2021, former first vice president Amrullah Saleh, citing provisions of the 2004 Constitution, declared himself the caretaker president of Afghanistan and announced the republican resistance against the Taliban. Saleh's claim to the presidency was endorsed by Ahmad Massoud, as well as by former Afghan Minister of Defence Bismillah Mohammadi, and the Afghan embassy in Tajikistan including its ambassador Mohammad Zahir Aghbar.
The republican insurgency in Afghanistan is an ongoing low-level guerrilla war between the National Resistance Front and allied groups which fight under the banner of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on one side, and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on the other side. On 17 August 2021, former first vice president of Afghanistan Amrullah Saleh declared himself the "caretaker" president of Afghanistan and announced the resistance. He held various key security and intelligence positions throughout his career. Jurat was a prominent figure in Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS) and served as a close aide to high-ranking Afghan politicians, particularly during the pre-Taliban era.
