Hatun Demirer is a Turkish diplomat and Turkey's Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). [1]
Demirer holds a bachelor's degree in International Relations from Middle East Technical University in Ankara. She joined the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990 and has since served in various positions in Turkey's diplomatic missions abroad and at the Ministry's headquarters in Ankara. She served as the Turkish Ambassador to Bahrain from October 2013 to December 2017. [2] She then acted as the Director General in charge of consulates,migration,and visas until March 8,2021. [3]
On March 8,2021,Demirer was appointed as Turkey's Permanent Delegate to the OSCE,succeeding Ambassador Tacan İldem. [4] As the Permanent Delegate,she represents Turkey in the OSCE's decision-making bodies,including the Permanent Council and the Ministerial Council. She is also responsible for promoting Turkey's policies and interests in the OSCE's three dimensions of security:politico-military,economic and environmental,and human rights. [5]
Demirer is married to fellow ambassador Yunus Demirer and has two children. [6]
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is a regional security-oriented intergovernmental organization comprising member states in Europe,North America,and Asia. Its mandate includes issues such as arms control,the promotion of human rights,freedom of the press,and free and fair elections. It employs around 3,460 people,mostly in its field operations but also in its secretariat in Vienna,Austria,and its institutions. It has observer status at the United Nations.
Turkey is a founding member of the United Nations,the Organisation of the Islamic Conference,the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe,has been in the Council of Europe since 1949,and in NATO since 1952. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the governmental body responsible for conducting foreign relations of the Republic of Turkey. The Ministry is responsible for Turkey's diplomatic missions abroad and for the promotion of Turkish culture,as well as for implementing the country's foreign policy in accordance with its national interests. Established on 2 May 1920,its primary duties are administering diplomatic missions,negotiating international treaties and agreements,and representing the Republic of Turkey at the United Nations. The ministry is headquartered in the Turkish capital of Ankara and counts on more than 200 missions as embassies,permanent representation offices and consulates general,abroad. As of 2021,the Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains 235 diplomatic posts worldwide. The current Minister of Foreign Affairs is Hakan Fidan,who has held the position since 3 June 2023.
Finland–Turkey relations are foreign relations between Finland and Turkey. Finland has an embassy in Ankara and an honorary consulate general in Istanbul and other honorary consulates in Adana,Alanya,Antalya,Belek,Bodrum,İzmir,and Kayseri. Turkey has an embassy in Helsinki. Both countries are full members of the Council of Europe,the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD),the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE),North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),and the Union for the Mediterranean.
