Heather Woods Broderick (born June 7, 1983) is an American musician and composer. She has released solo material under her own name, been a member of Efterklang, Horse Feathers and Loch Lomond, and been a member of the backing bands of Laura Gibson, Sharon Van Etten, and Lisa Hannigan. [1]

Biography

Broderick was born in the state of Maine. [2] She was born at home to two musicians and raised in Portland, Oregon, where she started piano lesson sat the age of 8. [3]

She plays piano, cello, guitar and flute. [4]

She is the sister of Peter Broderick, also a solo artist and Efterklang collaborator.

Broderick has also backed Portland-based singer-songwriter, Alela Diane, among others.

Broderick has toured with many other artists including Horse Feathers, Efterklang, and Sharon Van Etten, which has kept Broderick moving locations for nearly a decade.

Norfolk & Western is an American indie rock and folk/rock band from Portland, Oregon, United States. They are not to be confused with the fallen flag railroad of the same name. An essential part of their stage set-up and sound is a turn-of-the-century Victrola Grammaphone. Norfolk and Western began as the recording project of Adam Selzer with friends, including M. Ward, playing various instruments, and evolved over time to become a fully orchestrated band. Magic Chairs is the third studio album from Danish indie rock group Efterklang. The album is the band's first release on their new label 4AD, and was released on February 22, 2010 and a day later in North America. The album was also released on the band's own label, Rumraket, in Scandinavia. The band began recording the album in January 2009 in studios across Copenhagen and Århus, Denmark, and mixed the album with producer Gareth Jones. The first single "Modern Drift" was released as a free MP3 track on 4AD's website on November 19, 2009, and the music video for the song premiered on January 25, 2010.

Van Etten wrote the whole album herself, and produced it with Daniel Knowles. The indie rock album was preceded by four singles. It was critically acclaimed and appeared on several year-end lists, and charted in several countries. A deluxe version of the album was released on November 11, with two more singles ahead of it.
