Heatherton is a village located southwest of Stephenville. The population was 244 in 1951 and 290 in 1956.
The primary areas of employment are farming and fishing. Heatherton has one hardware store and one general store and two churches.

The French submarine Rubis was a Saphir-class minelaying submarine which first served in the French submarine force, then the Free French Naval Forces (FNFL) during the Second World War and back with the French Navy. The boat was awarded numerous awards. Accordingly, as a result of Rubis's service with the FNFL, the boat was made a companion of the Ordre de la Libération by a decree issued by General Charles de Gaulle on 14 October 1941.
The Whitefish River Valley is located in the unorganized area of Thunder Bay District, Ontario, and is named for the Whitefish River that flows through it. The valley is home to several small communities that developed when land was opened for homesteading under the Dominion Lands Act along the Port Arthur, Duluth and Western Railway line at the turn of the 20th century and many people, particularly those from Finland, settled in the area. However, among the local population the Fontas is viewed only as a tributary of the Sikinni Chief, in the view that the Sikanni continues to exist, flowing northwest to where it meets the larger Muskwa River where the Fort Nelson River is actually formed in the eyes of the indigenous Dene, Cree and European-descendant populations of Fort Nelson First Nation and Fort Nelson.
