The Men's marathon at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place on August 29 in the streets of Athens, Greece where one hundred and one athletes from 59 nations competed. The event was won by Stefano Baldini of Italy, the nation's first victory in the event since 1988 and second overall. The United States reached the podium in the event for the first time since 1976 with Meb Keflezighi's silver. Vanderlei de Lima took bronze, Brazil's first-ever medal in the men's marathon.

The eleventh edition of the South American Championship was held in Lima, Peru from 30 October to 27 November 1927. The participating countries were Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Uruguay. The tournament was also used as a qualifier for the 1928 Summer Olympics and both Argentina and Uruguay were subsequently invited to enter that competition.

Carlos Enrique Polanco is a notable exponent of Peruvian painting. Since his beginnings he was attracted to the less privileged urban sectors of Lima City. When he studied in School of Fine Arts, his work reflected the iconography and color of the Peruvian urban night life. Polanco is an artist with a social commitment.
Héctor Vinent Cháron was a Cuban amateur boxer, who won the Light Welterweight Gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics and 1996 Summer Olympics. Hector appears in Brin-Jonathan Butler's forthcoming documentary Split Decision. He currently trains athletes at the Istanbul-based gym Mugenhous in Turkey.

Maurício Camargo Lima, known as Maurício Lima or simply Maurício, is a Brazilian former volleyball player and five-time Olympian. He won two Olympic gold medals with the Brazilian national volleyball team: the first against the Netherlands at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the second against Italy at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He also played at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He was a setter known for his strong defense.

According to the work entitled La Difusión del Fútbol en Lima, during the last decade of the 19th century, records show that sailors were known to practice sports such as football/soccer and played against teams made up of Englishmen, Peruvians, or a mix between Englishmen and Peruvians.
The 2019 Pan American Games, officially the XVIII Pan American Games and commonly known as Lima 2019, were a multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization held in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019, with preliminary rounds in certain events having begun on July 24, 2019. These were the first Pan American Games to be held in Peru, and the seventh to be held in South America.
