The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is a collegiate athletic conference headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, which is made up of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the Southern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I for most sports; in football, it participates in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly referred to as Division I-AA.
Prairie View A&M University is a public historically black land-grant university in Prairie View, Texas. William James Nicks was an American college football player and coach. He coached at historically black colleges in the Southern United States from 1930 to 1965. Nicks served as the head football coach at Morris Brown College in Georgia and at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. He was the NAIA Football Coach of the Year in 1963 and his teams were declared the black college football national champions six times. Nicks was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1999.
Alexander Durley was an American college football coach, college athletics administrator, and mathematics professor. He served as the head football coach at Texas College from 1942 to 1948, at Texas Southern University from 1949 to 1964, and at Prairie View A&M University from 1969 to 1970. Eric Dooley is an American college football coach and former player. He is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Grambling State University, positions he has held since 2024. He was the head football coach at Southern University from 2022 to 2023. Dooley served as the head football coach at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas from 2018 to 2021.

Robert Earl Moreland was an American college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of the Texas Southern Tigers from 1975 to 2001, and as interim head coach during the 2007–08 season. Moreland has the most wins as a coach in Tigers history with 406. Moreland led the Tigers to a NAIA championship in 1977 and was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Coach of the Year five times.
