Helena Sinervo (born 17 February 1961) is a Finnish poet, novelist and translator. She has published three novels, 11 poetry collections and three children's books and her works has been translated into more than 25 languages. [1] Sinervo was awarded the Finlandia Prize for Fiction in 2004.
Sinervo was born in the Finnish city of Tampere in 1961 and she studied the piano and music. She was at the Tampere Conservatoire where she qualified to teach piano. She obtained her doctorate at Helsinki University. She became a published poet in 1994. [2]
Sinervo has translated poems by the American poet Elizabeth Bishop, the French poet Yves Bonnefoy, Maurice Blanchot and the symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé. Sinervo spent a further year studying in Paris in the 1990s. [2]
She has written a novel based on the life of the Finnish poet Eeva-Liisa Manner who died in 1995. [3]
She has written song lyrics for the first album by Liisa Lux in 2002. [4]
Sinervo won the Finlandia Prize for Fiction in 2004. [3]

Finnish literature refers to literature written in Finland. During the European early Middle Ages, the earliest text in a Finnic language is the unique thirteenth-century Birch bark letter no. 292 from Novgorod. The text was written in Cyrillic and represented a dialect of Finnic language spoken in Russian Olonets region. The earliest texts in Finland were written in Swedish or Latin during the Finnish Middle Age. Finnish-language literature was slowly developing from the 16th century onwards, after written Finnish was established by the Bishop and Finnish Lutheran reformer Mikael Agricola (1510–1557). He translated the New Testament into Finnish in 1548.
Faroese literature, in the traditional sense of the word, has only really developed in the past two hundred years. This is mainly because of the islands' isolation, and also because the Faroese language was not written down in a standardised format until 1890. Until then the Danish language was encouraged at the expense of Faroese. Nevertheless, the Faroese language soon became a vehicle for literature in its own right and has produced writers in several genres.

Mirkka Elina Rekola was a Finnish writer from Tampere who published poems, aphorisms, essays. Her poetry was considered ‘difficult’, thus she gained wide audience as late as in the 1990s. Rekola's production has not really been the subject of research until after the mid-1990s. Liisa Enwald's 1997 dissertation Kaiken liikkeessä lepo contributed to pioneering research. In 2020, the Runopuu mural, painted by Teemu Mäenpää and produced by the Annikki Poetry Festival, was published in Tampere, as part of which is Rekola's poem "Minä rakastan sinua, minä sanon sen kaikille".

Veikko Olavi "Vexi" Salmi was a Finnish lyricist. He wrote the lyrics to numerous popular songs for several prominent artists, including Irwin Goodman, Jari Sillanpää, and Katri Helena. His career as a lyricist began in the 1960s, and continued until his death. During his prolific career, he wrote the lyrics for over 4,000 songs, more than 2,400 of which have been recorded. In addition to song lyrics, he authored several novels and one collection of poetry. Salmi's latest work also included collaborating with Ilkka Lipsanen on a 60th anniversary album, and he also acted as a judge on a television program on music lyrics, Biisikärpänen
The Eino Leino Prize is an annual prize award to top writers in Finland since 1956, with particular emphasis on poets.
Elvi Aulikki Sinervo was a Finnish writer, poet, and translator. She was the recipient of the Eino Leino Prize in 1980. She married member of parliament Mauri Ryömä (1911–58). Their daughter is translator Liisa Ryömä.
