Helsingin Kisa-Toverit (HKT) is a sports club founded in 1929 and based in Finland's capital city of Helsinki. The club have many departments and the strongest have been in basketball, track sports and field games.

Basketball

Men

The basketball HKT has been played in the national basketball league for 26 seasons, during which it won 504 to 300 match. [1] The club has won five championships in Finland in the period from 1961 to 1965, five silver and two bronze medals. [2] Also the men's basketball department of HKT has won the 1969-70 national Cup. [3] In European competitions HKT advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1963–64 FIBA European Champions Cup where the team eliminated by the Italian powerhouse Simmenthal Milano. [4] In the 1964–65 FIBA European Champions Cup HKT faced in the round of 16 the famous Real Madrid and played a great home match where the Finnish lost with a 100-109 score.

Korisliiga sports league

The Korisliiga is the top-tier professional basketball league in Finland, comprising the top 11 teams of the country. In its current format, each team plays all other teams four times in the regular season, twice at home and twice away, for a total of 40 regular season games. The top eight teams continue to the league's playoffs, in which all series are in a best-of-five format. Pantterit holds the record for the most league titles won, with 14. The top level Finnish league for women is the Naisten Korisliiga.

The 1963–64 FIBA European Champions Cup was the seventh season of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup. It was won by Real Madrid, marking the first of the club's 10 EuroLeague championships in its history.

The 1964–65 FIBA European Champions Cup was the eighth season of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup. It was won by Real Madrid, for the second straight time.

The national team of Finland that took part in the basketball tournament of 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo had constituted five players of Helsingin Kisa-Toverit (Martti Liimo, Kari Liimo, Raimo Vartia, Pertti Laanti and Teijo Finneman).

The Finnish national basketball team represents Finland in men's international basketball tournaments. They have played in 13 EuroBasket tournaments, with its best finish being 6th at the 1967 EuroBasket on home soil. Finland made its FIBA World Cup debut at the 2014 edition.

Tokyo Metropolis formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture and the city of Tokyo. Tokyo is often referred to as a city but is officially known and governed as a "metropolitan prefecture", which differs from and combines elements of a city and a prefecture, a characteristic unique to Tokyo.

Women

Women's basketball section of HKT has played four seasons in the first division (Naisten Korisliiga). [5] In 1967, the club's women's team won the only Finnish Championship. In 1966 HKT's women won their first championship medal, as naisjoukkue reached the Championship bronze medal. [6]

Naisten Korisliiga is the highest tier of women's basketball in Finland. The competition was formerly known as Naisten SM-sarja and was renamed to Naisten Korisliiga for the 2013-14 season.

Baseball Helsingin Kisa-Toverit won two TUL's championships, in 1932 and 1935. Socially turned in one of his fastest baseball players of which, Alpo Savolainen, [7] and Ensio Vuorinen.

The club was founded on 27 September 1908, and has been mainly known for the achievements of its association football and handball teams. FC Kontu

FC Kontu is a football club from Helsinki, Finland. It serves Kontula in East Helsinki and the immediately surrounding area. The club was formed in 1967 under the name Kontulan Urheilijat, the name being changed in 1994. The men's football first team currently plays in the Kolmonen and their home ground is at the Kontulan liikuntapuisto. The Suomen Palloliiton Saimaan piiri(SPL Saimaa district) was a district organisation of the Football Association of Finland operating from 1924 to 1994. Until the Second World War the district was known as the Suomen Palloliiton Viipurin piiri . It administered football and bandy initially in and around Viipuri, later expanding to cover the southern part of the historical Finnish Karelia, and ultimately in the Lake Saimaa area. Currently it's part of the Suomen Palloliiton Kaakkois-Suomen piiri.

Toverit Helsinki was a sports club in Helsinki, Finland, which was founded in 1916. Its history apparently ended in 1962.

Finland's Bandy Association is the governing body for the sport of bandy in Finland. Bandy was one of the sports for which the Ball Association of Finland, founded in 1907, was created. The present Finnish Bandy Association was founded on 18 March 1972, to take over bandy from the Ball Association of Finland, which from then on concentrated on association football only.

Pantterit Finnish basketball team

Pantterit is a basketball club from Helsinki, Finland. The club was formed in 1938 and it has won the men's Finnish championship title for 14 times making it the most successful team in Finnish basketball history. Pantterit also has 5 women's Finnish championship titles.

Kalevi Vilho Tapio ”Kallu” Tuominen is a Finnish retired basketball coach and player and sports executive, who also played handball and football at the national top-tier level as well as practiced many other sports. He worked as the overall head coach of Finnish Olympic Committee between 1969–1992. In basketball, the 174-centimetre-tall Jantunen played his whole SM-sarja career for Tampereen Pyrintö and also coached the team between 1960–1964. He capped 11 times as a player and was a long-time head coach of Finland men's national team in its peak era. During Tuominen's coaching years 1955–1969 Finland qualified for 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where it placed 11th, and played in seven EuroBaskets. In EuroBasket 1967 arranged in Finland, the host team placed sixth, which is still in 2016 Finland's best position in EuroBasket. Finland women's national basketball team placed 11th in Tuominen's guidance in EuroBasket 1956 Women. He worked also as a FIBA-licensed referee. Tuominen was inducted to Finnish Basketball Hall of Fame as one of its first members in 2009. Pyrintö has retired Tuominen's jersey but allows players to use his number 15.
