Henry de Bromhead (born 28 October 1972) [2] is an Irish horse trainer who specialises in training horses for National Hunt racing. [3] He has trained a number of Grade 1 winners including Sizing John and Honeysuckle, and is based at stables in Knockeen, County Waterford [2]

Career

He commenced racehorse training in 2000, having taken over the family stable from his father, Harry. De Bromhead spent time learning training with Robert and Sally Alner and Sir Mark Prescott, and worked at Coolmore Stud. He won his first Grade One race as a trainer in 2008 when Sizing Europe won the Irish Champion Hurdle and since then has gone on to have success in Ireland and the UK. His major successes include the Grand National in 2021, two Champion Hurdles and two Cheltenham Gold Cups at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021 and 2022, three Queen Mother Champion Chase wins, with Sizing Europe in 2011, Special Tiara in 2017 and Put The Kettle On in 2021. His current stable jockey is Rachael Blackmore. [4]

Personal life

Henry de Bromhead is married to Heather de Bromhead. They have three children together; twins Jack and Mia, and their younger sister Georgia.

On 3 September 2022, de Bromhead's son, Jack, was killed in a racing accident during the Glenbeigh Racing Festival. [5] He was competing in a pony race, when he fell off his horse, and sustained fatal injuries, aged 13. All upcoming races during the festival were cancelled. [6] [7]

In 2018 and 2019 he won the Grand National with Tiger Roll, ridden by Davy Russell and owned by Gigginstown House Stud, the first horse since Red Rum to win the race twice. In 2018 he also won the Irish Grand National, with General Principle. On two occasions, in 2017 and 2018, he was the top trainer at the Cheltenham Festival.

Noel Fehily is a retired Irish professional horse racing jockey. Throughout his professional career, he has enjoyed substantial success including the King George VI Chase and Champion Hurdle, despite enduring significant injuries.

Sizing John is a British-bred, Irish trained thoroughbred racehorse who competes in National Hunt racing. He is trained by Jessica Harrington and owned by Ann and Alan Potts, and is best known for winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2017. He has been ridden in most of his races by Jonathon Burke, but has more recently been ridden Robbie Power, including all four of his Grade 1 wins over fences. He also won a Grade 1 over Hurdles, the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown in 2014, and spent much of his early chasing career finishing second or third in races won by Douvan, widely regarded as one of the best chasers of recent times.

Honeysuckle a British-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who competes in National Hunt races. In the 2018/19 season she was unbeaten in four races including the Boreen Belle Mares Novice Hurdle, Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle and Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final. In the following season she compiled another perfect record, winning four times and taking the Hatton's Grace Hurdle, Irish Champion Hurdle and David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle. Another four straight wins in the 2020/21 season saw her repeat her victories in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle and the Irish Champion Hurdle before going on to win the Champion Hurdle and the Punchestown Champion Hurdle. Rachael Blackmore MBE is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. In 2021, she became the first female jockey to win the Grand National in the 182-year history of the race. She also became the first woman to be leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival with six victories, including the Champion Hurdle, in 2021. The following year she became the first female jockey to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Jack Kennedy is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. He registered his biggest win when riding Minella Indo to victory in the 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Minella Indo is an Irish racehorse who competes in National Hunt racing.
